You know when you are listening to the radio and you insert a CD, the radio switches off, you hear the whirring motor sound of the CD getting sucked in and it goes in CD mode. Well imagine you are listening to the radio and every 10 seconds, the cd players motor goes on trying to suck in a CD, the volume goes down to nearly zero for half a second, then goes back to normal volume, the player keeps trying to do this in radio mode even though I am not inserting a CD.

I dont listen to the radio much, and if I do, there is a CD in the cd player, so all is dandy most of the time because it doesn't keep trying to detect and suck in a CD. Otherwise, it is very abnormal!!! Has this happened to anyone else? Should the headunit be replaced by dealer? All was fine for the first few months of ownership, but after that, it's been like this. :shrugs:

Since it only happens when a CD isn't in the headunit, I'd put one in and head to the dealer for them to sort it out.

That should cure it, cause you know once you get there it'll be working correctly!

This situation can often happen to those who make their own CDs and apply labels to the disks. Pieces of the label, if not firmly adhering to the disk itself can sometimes tear off and lodge in the player mechanism. This can interfere with internal sensors used to detect the insertion of a disk. In cold dry weather, disks can become charged with static electricity causing dirt and other nasties to become stuck to the disks, which then fly off the disk and into the mechanism once the disk starts spinning.

Words to the wise regarding CDs in the car: Make sure your disks are clean before inserting them, and never use 'removeable' labels on CDs. Even the permanent ones are susceptible to peeling up and getting caught in the tight confines of a car CD headunit.
