Will sirius from 08 mini work in 08 bmw 128?
Does anyone know for a fact if the sirius tuner from my 08 mini can be pulled and installed in an 08 bmw 128? My instincts say that it will work, since much of the electronics look identical. Thanks.
Sure looks like it to me based on the part numbers shown on RealOEM.
Due to the nature of the MOST bus fiber optic ring you just can't unplug the sat module. With the only exception is that you don't have nav, no HD/IBOC tuner, no bluetooth/USB, no changer, or no iPod adapter. Then it is safe to unplug. Your car will still show the sat tuner on the radio and the dealer software tools will throw errors because the module is missing and will not be able to reprogram the car without it.
On the flip side, in the 1 you will not have access to the sat tuner until the car is retrofitted (modify the vehicle order) to include the sat tuner.
Just be aware it may not exactly be plug and play in new car due to the MOST bus ring and the configuration of the car. I spent hours under the dash swapping and using flashlights to get the correct fiber optic lines setup for my car to add the HD tuner.
If you want to do the programming yourself you will need to use NCS Expert to modify your Vehicle Order to remove the SDARS from the Cooper and add it to the 1. See my sticky thread in the Electrical modification section called Close windows with FOB. The steps are bit different to modify the vehicle order then changing the features.

I can explain a lot more about it if you decide to do it! But I realized I missed boiling down my long winded explanation that it is not an easy plug and play swap.
But it is a doable swap with programming and fiber optic line reconfiguration.
Also I don't believe the dealer actually has the ability to remove the sat tuner from the Cooper computer system, I believe that is something you would have to do yourself.

i'm pretty familiar with MOST systems from working on Audi for years past. I don't really have too much problem with that, i mostly just wanted to insure it was the same part for both cars. I didn't know about realOEM, very helpful!

If I find a junk yard or used Sirius Module from an 2009-2010 Cooper can I just plug this in under the passenger seat? Will the dealer charge me for a software upgrade-do I even need a software upgrade? My 09 Cooper S is pre wired and right now I am using that antenna under the seat on a portable XM.
But the install is not a simple plug and play, the fiber optic MOST ring bus is dark by default under the pass seat (and it really depends on the other MOST bus modules you have, IBOC, nav, changer, ipod, bluetooth). My car had the diagnostic loop just above the fuse box (but some R56's do not) so I was able to reconfigure all of the fiber optic lines (using flashlights) to the correct ring configuration.
