Aux in volume

I have my Zune connected to the AUX in on my 2011 MCS with just a simple 1/8" stereo cable. I have to turn up the volume on the Zune and the car stereo to get decent volume, then if I switch it over to SAT its crazy loud.

Anyone experience this? Could it be my cable causing this issue? Also last time I checked the iPod cable is not working anymore as its not detecting my sisters iPod anymore.

For the Gen 1 there is an aux input +/- setting if you play with the bass etc. It was the last one. The zune is properly putting out non-amplified sound.

See if you have a setting. It only went up 5 clicks, but helps. Also if there is on, you may be able to find one on SAT and lower that...

I was reading about that in a Google search but I don't remember that setting being there. I will have to go and check on my lunch break.

I have a Creative Zen and had the same problem when I tried a line out from the headphone jack. I then discovered if I ran it from the a/v out on the adapter that came with my mp3 player, the volume was more inline with my other devices.

OK went out and messed with it during lunch.

When your on the AUX setting on the screen there will be AUX-VOL, hit the button under it and that will bring up the setting for more volume for the AUX In.

Its not noted in the manual that I could find. Only reference that I could find was a volume setting for iPod in.

It is actually the same setting. Just they don't tell you about it for some strange reason.

With the AUX selected, press and hold the 4th button from the left. It will bring up the AUX level. I believe the default is only 1 or 2 out of a possible 6.

I found a way and Integral Audio explained it ^^^^^ there. But let me try...

1. Plug device into Aux input jack
2. Select your Aux input (now you should be able to hear your device)
3. Press the 4th radio preset button from the left underneath the display - up will pop "Aux volume" on the display
4. One of the ***** (can't remember if its' the actual volume **** or the bigger control ****) will allow you to turn up the volume - 1-6 bars show up.

Now, this is how it works in my '08 with HiFi. Not sure if it would be the same in a 2011 or the HK. Hope this helps.

I use the factory ipod adapter w/ aux in, and have my volumes equal to the Sat/Tuner. It's been a couple months since I set this up, but I think I remember adjusting the Aux-VOL somewhere.

I have a 2011 MCS, H/K, no MINI Connected nor Nav. I'm pretty sure I had done what was mention above. Next time I'm in the MCS I'll look at my settings.

Worked like a charm for me (09 Cooper S). Thanks for the information

Thats is exactly how the 2011 HK is like in my MCS.

Holly cow,
I've had my MINI for almost 3 years and I never new you could turn up the input volume on the Aux. I just tried it and it works!

I've been having a problem with iPod raising the aux above 4 causes a lot of issues... The internals crackle and sound distorted. I've been re-ripping the music to 256 as I figured 128 could be the problem but if I burn it to a cd the quality goes up and the distortion goes down. I also have the IntegralAudio subwoofer installed, I do have an R57 and worked with Kevin to get an R57 kit that should be available soon. It seems that the lows aren't always hitting correctly but again, is only when I'm using the iPod. I started using a 4gb usb stick and everything is so much better. Next I might try to use just the 1/8th jack instead of the iPod adapter as the navigation for a 160gb iPod is horrible.

Anyone else notice that the iPod is this weak and/or have other options?

This problem appears to be nearly universal, with every 2nd gen MINI we've seen experiencing the issue. The AUX in connection is VERY noisy. Any movement of the connection usually results in a tremendous amount of noise, in addition to the relatively constant level of noise/distortion.

It is on my Project List to do some further investigating with our test equipment to see if I can find the source of the problem and a fix or workaround. I will let you all know what I find.

In the meantime, as HaloZero mentioned, the only way to get decent sound quality is to use CDs.

I did find that using just a usb stick gets around it a lot. Your subwoofer option kicks great with a thumb drive

Thanks!!

Good point - a thumbdrive will avoid the 1/8" AUX input, which appears to be the source of the noise. You already mentioned that, but I had missed it....and as HaloZero also mentioned, using a decent bitrate (I suggest 256kbps or better) will make a tremendous difference in the benefit you get from any audio upgrades.
