newbee from Harrisburg, Pa,

Having radio problems. I took my mini to a radio repair shop, they pulled the radio, but it has a security lock the Mini Dealer will not unlock the radio. Anyone have a suggestion?

The dealer can't fix your radio? Really?

Mini radio problems

The dealer will not fix the radio. They will only sell you a new one for $670.00 (not including installation) plus they want the old core.

Radio problems

The radio turns on and off and the volium control works, but none of the buttons work. I can change stations using the steering wheel controls. The dealer will not try to fix the radio, they will only install a new one for $670.00, not including installation. I had a radio repair shop remove the radio for repair, but the radio has a security lock that the dealer refuses to remove. Any suggestons.

The reason for NON-REPAIR is that is not only the radio it also houses the "Central Car Computer" I.E. the unit that runs all of the data that shows on the screen in the speedo and some that shows in the tach.

As for the lock out it will have to go back to MINI for repair the dealers do not have a way of correcting that. The dealer will take it out send it off and then put it back in. Very costly and probably more that just to have them replace it.

In other words you need to pay if it was not under warranty. If it was under warranty and you had someone else work on it they you are going to have to pay.
