Adding SIRIUS

He guys I picked up a JCW Mini today but the car didnt have Sirius on it. Sirius is a must have here in Vegas as the local radio is terrible. Can anyone tell me where i can purchase the factory sirius to install or a sirius kit that will work with my factory head unit?

I found this but not sure how good it is?

http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...roducts_id=267

Ideally I would like to add in the factory stuff but do the install my self to save a bit of $$

Go see the dealer in Vages and they can get you the parts your need. All the wiring should already be in the car. The Serius receiver goes under teh passanger seat. just make sure you diconnect the battery cable before pulling the seat out or you will be back at te dealer to have yoru airbags reset. Not usre if you will need some programing after the module is installed though. Many features need t be turned on in the computer after the parts are installed.

This gives you the OEM install.

Ok cool. Any place to buy OEM Mini parts online at a discount? With my old 335i Tischer BMW ( getbmwparts.com ) had parts at discount rates.

Go find your local Mini dealer, and have them install Sirius. I got my 07 before you could order it. Makes FM obsolete.

Although it would never be tuned by your HiFi, you should consider install of a current XM-Sirius radio.

This should be compatable with both the Sirius and XM Satellite Service and have more channels available.

You could still use your MINI's Satellite Antenna and feed through your Aux Jack for sound.

You would have your HiFi's Volume, Tone, Balance and Fade control and they do come with Remote Control for tuning.

This would also be a big saving over the price of a MINI 'Factory' or 'Dealer' install.

Nothing like getting 'more' for 'less'!

If you have a "Family Plan" subscription; (second or third receiver for $6.99 a month)
Today is the last day to 'lock' that rate by paying one to three years in advance (for the $6.99 only).

Thanks for the idea .... but im pretty set on the factory install kit. I like how everything works together and how clean it looks.

I found one person that quoted me a price of around $500, but said none are in stock in the US or Europe.

Here is the part # for the kit if anyone is interested:

Northwest MINI in Seattle has one in stock. I called today. Give them a shout. 1-888-612-8973 Price is $599, but ask for 10% 'Car Club Discount' brings it down to $539.10.

From there, either install youself (Leave the unit unplugged) and bring to dealer for programming, or let the dealer do the whole install.

M3This, when you get the kit can you post a photo of the contents, and give a list of all the contents w/part numbers if available? I need to know what parts it contains.

Not to rain on your parade, but you do realize Sirius / XM will be around for less than 2 years. They have never made a profit, and they have massive debt coming due every six months. Liberty Media just bailed them last time, but speculation has it that they did it for a tax write off. I would definitely not go into a long term contract with them.

I was an XM customer from day one, but I just canceled my subscription when the next payment came due. I always used an external radio so I could move it between the car, the home stereo, and the portable boom box I bought. All of it was easily removed.

My suggestion: return the kit, get an iPhone, and use a free internet radio service like Pandora Radio as your feed. It's free, and as long as you have a 3g signal - your golden.

If you still do decide to go with them, do a three months subscription and then call to cancel. They offered me 3 months free and 6 months at $3.99 if I would stay. Hey - it's worth a shot.

Again - only trying to save you a little money in the long run...

That's super big $ for the satellite radio unit! Did you give thought to a plug-n-play unit? about $500 less and you can bring it into the house/office. Can't use your steering wheel controls however you do get a remote with the unit.....

Yeah, hurry up and post pics...lol.

I just picked up my '09 JCW Thursday and am seriously thinking about going back to the dealer and have the Sirius installed.

I hate the clutter and cords laying around, as much as I hate paying 500+ bucks, it sure would leave a nice clean install.

As far as XM radio lasting only 2 more years, I don't know but I'm sure someone will pick it up and start to charge more. I think there are too many people using XM and Sirius to just dump it. They could double their money and charge 15 bucks a month and people would still use it....imo.

Anyway, post pics... I want to see it.

Thanks,

Mark

I had a Sirus PnP units forever and when Sirius and XM merged and had the combined coverage, I cancelled my Sirius sub. and activated the XM in my Honda. Well... I just got an '09 MCS and put my Sirius reciever in it. Plugs in to the Aux port, got the sat antenna cable, and mounted it in the passenger cup holder. My sportster came with a disk that you can stick on textured surfaces and use the suction cup on it to mount. I had to do a bit of shaving on the disk to fit it in the cup holder, but it's in there nice and snug and sporster is holding on just great. an added bonus, my sirius reciever is still getting all the programming and I have not reactivated.

It has been reported that if your receiver is not on to receive the deactivation after you cancel, that you can turn it on some months later and still get service.

It seems that they only transmit your deactivation code for a limited time period.

Guys my 09 JCW had to have a part warrantied to get the kit to work. I would recommend anyone with a 09 having the dealer install it and thats saying a lot considering I do everything my self.

Ordered my MINI yesterday and wanted them to install Sirius in it. Dealer said they have no kits and won't until fall. He said that design is being changed due to XM merger and new kits won't be tested and available until later this year. But I guess factory install is still available if you order car built with it.

Sounds sort of strange but... Anyone heard similar?
Thanks,

Thanks,
Yeah--We purchased a clubman a couple of weeks ago from the lot and wanted to add Sirius. But they said that didn't have any kits and didn't know when they would get them in. They didn't have any info. We were wondering if it had to go with the merger. I wonder if the factory kit works with XM/Sirius. I know the Sirius we already have in another vehicle doesn't include XM.

I am amazed that this propaganda has found it's way to NAM. Sirius is operating in the black, making a profit, and let's be honest, they have a monopoly on the market. Take a look at http://www.satwaves.com/forum/ if you want to read up on how stock price manipulation... AND a anti Sirius viral marketing campaign have tried to scare Sirius users and stock owners.

And I got a big chuckle out of the Pandora radio suggestion. It stinks on my iPhone using wifi, it's gotta be just horrid on 3G.

Side note, the parts are around. I contacted my MINI dealer last week and he gave me the run around blaming the merger. When I explained how the Sirius systems are still working, and, funny enough, Morristown MINI had em in stock, he "magically" was able to find one available. Quoted me $500.

Gluck with the install!

Kits are available once again. I just got mine from Morristown. The kit contains all the parts listed on REALOEM. (Module, bracket, lower box, upper cover, a bunch of screws, and plug housings) The receiver included in the kit is the new one 65129192273
