Navigation & AudioAudio upgrades, bluetooth, and navigation discussions surrounding the Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S (R56), and Cabrio (R57) MINIs.
I recently a purchased a 2008 MCS ( a month ago). The salesman told me I had a premium sound system and pointed out I had 8 speakers. After having the a car a month, I found the stereo is very lacking at anything more then 50%. The music starts to distort and sound crappy.
My question is there anything I can do to improve the quality of sound. IE. Amp and new speakers? Is it maybe a setting I may have over looked. If a new amp and speakers are needed, what would be a good setup.
I have a little speaker (Tweeter) on each of my A-Pillars . I guess the Mini Hi-Fi (If you want to call it that) Suxs! I was hoping to hear from some fellow Audiophiles and not someone that just added British flag accessories to their Mini.

Uh yeah, well I hope you find your answers...somewhere else!!

If you're a "serious audiophile" the HK system will not suffice even at perfect settings, which you should be able to figure out just by playing with the buttons even without a manual. If you want answers, your best bet would be your local car audio shop. If you're hands on kinda audiophile, then you should be able to answer your own Q's. Goodluck .

Well you have found out what everyone else here has found out. Yes the MINI HiFi system sucks. That is why they came out with the Harmon Kardon system. It is a whole lot better but still lacks in some peoples minds.

@johnnydisco - as he has a 2008 car he Can Not have the HK system it is the HiFi system.
What johnydisco has said is very true if you are a true audiophile. But also remember that this car has a very very small interior and is a rather noisy car as well. So anything you do is going to be difficult to get really good audiophile quality.

Thanks in advanced AXO.
Now as to answering of you question about speakers, amps, and the like. There HUNDREDS of threads on this exact same subject and going back to the site guide lines they ask that you search your answers out before posting the same question again.
But to get you started. Yes an aftermarket amp and speakers can and do make a big difference in the sound quality.
Again as johnnydisco said see your local car audio specialist. but i would suggest making sure they have worked on a lot of MINIs before allowing them to work on yours or if you are the DIY type then pick what you like and make it happen. Everything you need to know about connection points for audio in the car are already answered in threads on the forum here.
I thought RJKimbel was being rude when he/she posted a rolling eyes smiley to my legitamate question. Hence my rude reply. Sorry for hurting anyones feeling.
