Audio System Help!!

I installed the Polk db6501 component set in my mini (tweeters, subwoofers) but didn't install the crossovers. I don't have an amp, and my system runs off the stock radio, so i was told not to install the crossovers. Well, a month later and now the tweeters don't make any sound. I'm sure they are blown, and probably due to the fact that I didn't mount the crossovers. Is it possible to mount crossovers running off your stock radio? Do you have to have an Amp? thanks.

How did you wire the tweeters and subs if you didn't use the crossovers? If you just wired them in parallel with each other, you had two problems: First, the two drivers in parallel presented a lower impedance to the amp than the amp would have seen if you had used the crossover. Second (and more important), you were feeding both the tweeters and subs with a full-range signal. Feeding highs to the subs won't hurt anything, but feeding low frequencies to the tweeters will kill them in short order.

You can use a passive crossover with the stock amp, just realize that you'll lose a little bit of power because passive crossovers aren't 100% efficient.

Some factory systems are crossed over at the amplifier in which case, yes you wouldn't really need a crossover but in this vehicle absolutely you need a crossover. Best Buy now carries a new DXi line I have installed in my car that sound fantastic. You could give them a shot or just buy some replacement tweeters and put in the crossover. Makes a world of difference.

I wired them with a full signal. I bought some db10001's to replace them now. Which wires are the input and output? Do I have to take off all the panels and get down to my radio to find the wires to put the crossovers in?

It should be really easy. Most crossovers are labeled for the woofer, tweeter, and the input.

You shouldn't have to go all the way back to the radio to find the wires. If you have the basic stereo, isn't there just one pair of speaker wires going to each corner of the car? If that's the case, just use the original speaker wires as the input to the crossover. You should be able to tap them right where they went into the original factory speakers.
