Factory iPod interface

Hello,
I have a 2007 MCS with the factory iPod adapter kit installed (the one that has the iPod cable in the compartment above the glove box). Fisrt this is pretty good, I can plug my iPod in and use it as a CD changer my only issue with this is that it plays the songs in the same order all the time. I have to use scroll down the list of song to play different songs, it never lets me do a different shuffle. I turn my iPod on shuffle for what ever playlist I am trying to listen to but the songs are always in the same order. Either alphabetically or the order the play list is listed.
Is there a way to change the shuffle order through the car system?
I read the manual on the iPod interface but no help.
Here is how my system works according to the manual
CD 1 Playlists
CD 2 Artists
CD 3 Albums
CD 4 Genres
CD 5 Podcasts
CD 6 Songs

I have 3 playlists
60's and 70's
90's
My Top Rated
If I choose either the 60's & 70's or the 90's they play in alphabetical order by Artist
If I chose My top rated on my iPod they are in no specific order but it does not change, it only shuffles when I touch the shuffle on the iPod itself.
I would like to shuffle them through the Mini.
Can this be done?

Mine has a button with 'RND' above it that makes it random for the iPod... I could take a real photo later, but I'm pretty sure this is the button it is on.

Speaking of the iPod integration... It is absolutely terrible trying to scroll through any list that is more than 20 items long. It took me 15 minutes of scrolling that little **** to get to Modest Mouse one day. AH! I wish there was a solution for that...

There should be a button which would shuffle or random your cd tracks.
Works the same for iPod. Mine does, on an '05 with factory interface.

There is a difference between the way the 1st gen and the second gen work to start with then there are two types of iPod interface for the 2nd Gen cars. Those that have the USB type interface have a RND button selection. I do not believe that the Secret compartment iPod interface has that ability.

I have a 2010 with the ipod interface, and i cannot stand how long it takes to scroll through all the artists with the dial. Is there any way to do like a page down through everything or go by letter?

first off which system do you have?

1. USB iPod interface
2. Secret Compartment interface.

Unfortunately no, there is no easy a way to do this on either one.

What could help you is to set up playlists like A, B, C, D, etc. then put all A artists in playlist A and B artists in B and so on. This will at least reduce the initial scrolling.

Also this will be even more limited by the Secret Compartment type interface.

Not a bad idea. Not sure why I hadn't thought of that yet. Shouldn't be too hard to do... Might be able to do it simply with Smart Playlists in iTunes so it updates automatically! I need to sit down and do some overhauling in my playlists.

Mine has a RND button just like amberback notes.

(This is on the 07 with the secret compartment interface.)
