Water Damaged Amp - Install under pass. seat & carpet = fail

Forums -

I have not been on here in a while, but I am in the process of gutting the mods i made to my 2002 r50 / justapooper and wanted to note something....

About a year ago I installed an amplifier underneath the passenger side seat and carpet. I removed the styrofoam insert and amp sat snugly in there. I created some air-holes for the release of excess heat and my wiring was all very clean and in order. I also dynamatted the floor pan, prior to amp install.

Year or so later my amp is dead. I remove seat and interior side panel and start to pull back the carpet... but as i do i see that my carpet and whatever stock foam is underneath there were completely saturated with water.

Just thought I would note this for anyone considering under seat install on the notorious 2002 r50.

Maybe I screwed something up or maybe my mini is a lemon, but there was a serious amount of water soaked into the foam underneath the carpet and it brought about the death of my amplifier.
