Real problems with 2010 HK stereo system

Hi, Could someone tell me where to go to get help with what is wrong with my 2010 JCW's HK stereo system, I've got no midrange and no umph at all, I had a 2004 JCW and the sound system (HK) was fantastic, this system is anemic and though the service center ordered a new amp for me now they won't instal it because they can't hear anything wrong. I have had them check to see if it was wired out of phase but they say it was not, it is hard to believe what they tell me as they have never done a phase test before and clearly don't know what they are doing. I am so unhappy with this car and the service center. Where do I turn? I contacted customer support and they would not help as they believe the service center.

I was pretty disappointed initially with the H/K system, but as the speakers broke in, I'm satisfied with it now. The lack of a midrange adjustment, or any equalization adjustment at all is a bit shocking/disappointing, and I think the mids are severely lacking. But I do have plenty of bass, and overall I think it sounds quite good for what it is.

It sounds like you have a real problem. I'd try listening to another system at the dealership and see if it sounds better. If they don't have any in stock (a real possibility, I'm guessing that most ordered for stock would leave the option out), then post your location and see if a reader here can meet you for a comparison. Good luck!

You can find mp3 files online for phase testing. Try googling "loudspeaker phase test mp3".

Thank you, I will try that. I initially brought it back to the dealership within days of buying it and the SE regional manager was there with her car (same system) and we "A/B"ed the two cars and she and the showroom manager clearly heard the difference, it is pretty dramatic. I have now waited two months for the amp to be shipped from the UK and now they won't change it because the mechanics in service can't hear anything wrong. I hate me car as I have to spend 2 hours a day driving and my 2004 had a great system. I was told this one was even better, what BS. Also the passenger seat has no tilt memory - they are telling me that it didn't come with one, only the drivers seat has one now, can you believe that?

I am going over today for a listen with the partially deaf mechanics so I can show them what mid range is.

That's outrageous. Grab the GM of the dealership (by the nads if necessary) and point out to him/her the part about the regional manager hearing the problem and that this was the impetus to get the new amp ordered in the first place. Don't back down, keep coming at 'em like a rabid doberman, if necessary. Stories like this about dealership mistreatment make my head want to explode. Also, please state who the dealership is. They need to be called out when they're out of line, as well as complimented when the provide good service.

It's Lauderdale Mini, and the passenger seat really does not come with a memory anymore, scooch it forward to let out the passenger in the back and the seat adjustment regarding tilt has to be done over. What a pain, my son is really too small to push the seat back without help and it's hard to do from the drivers side. The stereo in my car sounded better against the latest car they brought over from the dealership so maybe the speakers do need to break in a bit, it's still a long away away from sounding anywhere as good as my 2004 sounded, it is very underpowered and lacking in midrange. Does anyone know if an aftermarket amp can replace the one that is there? I used to love my car stereo so much.

I have a 2010 and the Memory Passenger seat works like a charm. Try looking at your manual again to learn how to operate it.

I don't know what you mean by MEMORY TILT...is there such a thing?

I also have the HK system and happen to think it is pretty good. The best quality sound is out of my Ipod. As for your HK system. Did you NOT listen to it before you ordered/bought your car. I hate seeing people complain about things they could have eliviated by NOT ordering them or done more research.

If it truly is a problem, I hope you get it fixed. If it's just you not liking it, then I don't see where MINI has to pay for this.

My 2004 had seat memory in both seats, the 2010 does not come with memory in the passenger seat, the service guy showed me the memo as I guess a lot of people were complaining. As far as listening to the system before I bought it that was impossible as I ordered it in November, I did drive a 2009 and brought along my music to listen to and though it was fantastic I was assured by salesperson that the 2010 was going to be even better. Maybe this is your first Mini?

Sorry to say, the passenger seat HAS memory. Look at page 31 in your manual. It is in the CONTROLS section and it is called Previous Position!

Again, I have a 2010 and it works flawlessly. You CANNOT move the back of the seat back first. You have to slide the base of the seat back, THEN lock the back into position

As for my first MINI, yes it is and enjoying it.

I hope you get your HK working to your liking.

It has been documented here several times that the feature has been removed in the '10 models, along with a couple of other penny-pinching deletions, like the hood insulation. I'm going to have to check my passenger seat and see if I have the feature or not.

Preachy comments like this are of NO use, and are condescending. In my case, the H/K system wasn't even shipping yet, so I had no choice but to order without hearing it first.. perhaps the same is true of the OP. No point in busting his ***** when you don't even know the entire story.
