Verizon DROID
Hey, has anyone heard yet whether Verizon Droiid made by Motorola will work with 2008 Clubman's Bluetooth yet? I was considering getting one to replace my Blackberry but the Blackberry works so well, I am hesitant. If anyone gets one when they are set to sell, Nov 6th, please let me know.
Don't know about the Droid, but the Motorola V750 from Verizon seems to be working with my 09 Clubman. Took a while to figure out the commands, seeing they are slightly different from the MINI manual.
The official list of compatable phones I got from my MINI dealer was totally out of date. Of the 4 phones it showed, 1 had been replaced by one of the others about 2 years ago, and that one was not available now. The other 2 were more deluxe than I was after, so I'm not sure about them. My Verizon guy said just about any Bluetooth phone should be able to pair with a MINI.
Be patient, it takes a while playing with it to figure it out, but it works cool.

The best place to go for this type if information, i.e. which phones work, which have specific limitations and which do not work is right here on NAM. The below links get there info from real world testing by NAM Members.

I'm considering the same thing. My BB has been having real problems syncing my BB with Outlook (I'm on BIS and have to use Desktop Manager). Since Verizon just came out with the Storm2 I considered it, but I figure that I would have the same sync issues. Also, the Storm2 has the same browser that I have now....

Droid Does!
Well, after years of no syncing with my various Verizon phones. (the latest was a VX10000 Voyager), I got the Droid.
And it works with my '07 R56 MCS.... It took in all the contacts, names, numbers. Home/Work/Mobile designation.... everything. FINALLY!
Love the Droid! Very cool.... Mini compatibility was unexpected icing on the cake!

Just paired my Droid with my 2008 MCS today at lunch. Everything seems to be working just fine.

Does it "Voice Dial" too? "Dial Name" or "Call John" and it works????? Let me know?
I LOVE the Droid. I have not paired it yet, but with all this positive info I will be paring it today. I am not in the 20 to 30 year old range and this is my first smart phone. I was able to upgrade and wow how it has changed my world. Check out the Droid forums. http://www.droidforums.net/
You will be amazed at how popular and problem free this phone is. The calendar and outlook took some time, but got it worked out. Yes get the DROID! Great product! --Stacy

love the droid... !
The GPS and Google functionality are awesome. The browser: awesome. I've found little on the web I can't do on the Droid. I just love the Google maps, the clarity, the satellite views, the GPS locator. The search functions. The GPS can track your trip! I took it on a few hikes and a few runs, it is AWESOME! (direct upload of your trip, run or hike map to Twitter, Facebook or your Google maps) Speed, distance, elevation...and accurate! Oh yeah, and I'm running with my mp3's playing while the thing is tracking me on GPS. Multitasking! OK, cool....
Apps: I've found plenty of FREE apps in the app store to keep me busy. Pandora (internet radio), A thing that turns the camera into a barcode reader plus barcode internet lookup. (yeah, exactly...how the heck?) Weather. Ebay apps. Games. Facebook. Some good Twitter apps. All free.
Status Bar: Oh yeah, I love the status bar (at top of screen): shows new texts, new emails, new tweets, calls, missed calls, phone messages, all while the screen is still locked. Just pull the phone from your pocket and a quick glance tells you if you have new stuff waiting. A quick swipe to unlock, a quick swipe to drop down the status bar, and voila! Your text conversations, tweets, emails are right there to read or respond to!
Battery: Did I mention it has GREAT battery life? So far, all day, (say about 12-14 hrs) and I don't think I've dropped below 50%. Of course, browsing, Bluetooth, GPS and WIFI use battery faster. But even when I'm bored, I haven't drained the battery in a day's use. Also, I just download a free WIDGET that pops a 4-button bar on my mainscreen-> Poof! BT, Wifi radio control, screen lighting, refresh buttons right there to turn stuff on/off!!!! Oh yeah, and I downloaded another widget that gives a by-percentage battery indicator/status bar. (although droid's main screen shows battery % when locked)
Speaker Phone: Speaker phone is great. Clear, loud. Excellent quality and usability!
At first, I thought the Droid wasn't an "iphone" killer. Well, danged if for me it doesn't come close! (and I own an ipod Touch, which is an iPhone without the phone, I love it, but this Droid can do everything I want it to do, and it makes calls too!)
Cons: So far I haven't figured out how to get my jawbone BT headset to take voice commands. (the Mini does do voice though, fyi!) Call strength isn't as good as it was with my Voyager. (Still better than coverage/dropped call rate than anybody I know with ATT!) Slide out keyboard could be better. I don't actually use it much, but in a pinch, it works. Camera could be faster and have better focus. I'm not so impressed. Flash works ok.
Bottom line: Best phone I've owned, and it's on Verizon's network! Yes, it IS the Network! And Droid DOES!

I was on VZW for 12 years, and switched for Iphone. Last week I ditched ATT and the Iphone after 4 dropped calls in 30 minutes. Haven't looked backed, but I was concerned because the Iphone is a very nice phone. Droid is slightly larger, especially when skinned but feels industrial sturdy.
Today marks week 1. I've been on travel so haven't worked out the kinks in Skylar yet. I did try to get it to read MP3's via my USB port in the car and the car display said there was an error. I'm sure connecting via audio jack is fine but charge + music combined would be nice, and radio controlled selection of my music files less dangerous.
Now I want to work on mounting options. There is an iPHONE mount for right beside the tach, that also supplies power. I wonder if there is a way to do that for DROID.
It will be fun to figure it out, no hurry here.
Totally geeky I know, but I was the first customer in SF to get the Droid on opening day. Started waiting at about 6am outside the store. I can't speak to the BT integration with the car because I got my 2007 used, and it is relatively option-free. I think the only bell it's got is the dual moonroof. Back on topic. I got the car cradle from Motorola and have it suctioned to that huge speedo gauge. I use a male-male audio cable to the Aux-in on the stereo, and that's all I really need to have a pretty sweet, integrated audio and nav system in my car. Incoming phone calls play the audio thru the speaker system. When I'm listening to music either via Pandora or the media player, the music fades out when the phone starts to ring, then fades back up when the call ends. The nav works like a charm too. I second all the positives that @maxshrike0 mentioned. The new OS release that's rolling out to the phones right now fixes the camera focusing gripes, and a number of other issues including better battery utilization, greatly improved OS responsiveness.
If you're thinking abt getting a Droid, stop thinking. They're great. And you don't need anything other than the stock MINI audio system, the car cradle, and an audio cord to make full use of the phone as your entertainment/nav controller in the car.

Too Many Contacts to Sync w/BT
So, has anyone figured out yet, how to sync a subset of your contacts with the Mini BT? I have 2800+ contacts and the Mini BT cannot sync that many. On the Iphone, I could create a smaller contact list and then instruct the Iphone to sync that specific contact list with the BT in the Mini.
If someone has found a way, I'd love to hear your method. Wish I could delete some contacts but that's not an option for me.
Thanks in advance.

You'll only be able to avoid making tags if you have a car with the built-in factory nav- without the nav system, recording tags is required. There was a time we thought it was phone dependent, but there were enough people with mixed results that it got figured out eventually. Since then, Mini's made Bluetooth PDFs available that note this as well.
Paired but not connected
Skippydog: I am the proud owner of a new 2010 Chili Red convertible Mini Cooper. I also have a Droid with 2.1 update1 -- I had it paired and connected with my previous Toyota, as well as with a bluetooth headset device and Motorola HD stereo headphones.
I can pair the device but cannot connect, any thoughts?
