iPod causing Bluetooth problems?
I am having an interesting problem, when I have my 1st gen 30GB Ipod connected to my car my bluetooth speakerphone does not work, its like it grounds out and all that I hear is distortion and thats all anyone on the other end hears.
I was really beginning to think my bluetooth in the car was messed up, until I unplugged my ipod...
It works just fine when I have my Ipod touch or my girlfriends Nano Video connected...
This is odd as the Ipod doesnt even need to be in use to cause the bluetooth to not work, simply having it plugged in causes the problem...
I asked the dealer if the could order me a new cable, I am also trying to find another 1st gen Ipod to test my theory...
Any one had similair expierence problem?
Thanks
Scott

Scott,
Which cable are you using?
Is it he Mini Supplied Y-Cable?
If it is the Mini Y-Cable is there a part number on it?
There are two different Y-Cables, one for the older iPods and for the new iPhones. Both should work with the older iPod but the newer cable may not actually work with older iPod due to internal changes to the cable to make it compatible with the new iPhone G3.
This may help us to help you.

I can't think of any reason why that would happen.
How is the iPod connected, via a dock connector or some other way? What model iPod do you have? It isn't a 1st gen iPod, they didn't come in 30GB. Does it have a colour screen? does it have the clickwheel? those would be good pointers to what model it is.

Its a First Gen Ipod Video, I will have to check which cable it is, it was the one that came with the car when I picked it up about a month ago...
I would guess it is the newer one, since its an 09
Thanks

+1 you probably need the older y-cable that does not work with the newer phones.
I will see if you can find the p/n later this evening.

The new cable should work with a Video iPod, the iPod works on USB power like the iPhone. One thing I can think of, is the video iPod can take a lot of power (like 600-700mA) particularly when spinning up the disk, whereas the Y-cables I have don't like delivering more than about 350mA. The phones aren't that far behind in their power usage though.

The new cable is designed to work with the higher current draws and also will put a voltage on the data lines which some of the older iPods do not like. THis may be what i causing the problem.
If you are not to far from the dealer stop by and take in your cable and iPod to see if it will work on another car or two.
If it works with them then the problem is with you car.
If it has the same problem with the other cars then have the dealer get you a version of the older cable and see if that works.
I have not been able to find the correct par numbers for each cable but i know they are on the forum in a post somewhere. but he dealer should be able to find them easily

(I claim that I should know, I invented the idea in the first place, and my name is on the patent application.)
On the cable itself is 0440796
