Speakers, Amp, etc ?'s

I think i'm about to take the plunge. I have an '08 clubbie with the hifi. I'm going to go with Hertz hsk163 up front, the hertz hcx690 in the rears and a hertz hx250d sub, glassed into the spare wheel area. To push it all, i'm looking at an Audison 5.1k. Now my question to you all is this. Will that Amp draw too much power from the electrical system? Should i add a second battery? Also I'm keeping the stock head unit, so would you just go with a simple LOC or something more like the jl cleansweep or the audio control lc6i?

Thanks

Brian

I don't know how much juice the Audison 5.1k draws but I'm running two amps for a total of 580w with no problems.

I used a rockford 360.2 It'll give you more options but isn't necessary.

Run a capacitor. If nothing else, this will save your alternator. I also believe it made the whole system sound better when I used one in the past.

The specs on the Audison 5.1k are as follows: the first 4 channels are "AB" rated @ 4ohms 2x60+2x170 The fifth channel is a class "D" @ 4ohms 750w. Of course you can figure if i go @2 ohms on the last 3 channels it's 2x250 and 1x1030. I think i might have to go with another battery. I just hope the alternator can handle the load....

wow.. that's some serious power. I think our alternators are rated at 130 amps but I'm not positive. Of that I wouldn't know how much is excess.

One capacitor should do the trick. You'll probably go through batteries a bit faster but not fast enough to do a second battery install. Save that stuff for thumpers with 10x15's in the back.

Since the only signals available are line outs, the harness with the RCAs on it has to have some level conversion built in.

Depends on how freaky (sorry, "high end") you want to go. My next step, if I decide to do it, will be an Alpine pdx.5 amp, and probably something like the Cleansweep to do LOC and other DSP magic.

So what did you end up going with? I have JL Clean sweep, however, thinking on purchasing an AudioControl LC6i to use in its place. It’s my understanding that the JL CS is a bisnitch to tune and you will get noise no matter what due to the design of the MC radio.

So far, I'm still using the stock head with 2-ways and the little bass600 sub in the back. Sounds good enough to me.

If I was going to be doing serious listening to something like the Guarneri Quartet ... I wouldn't be doing it in the Mini!

Another one of those tradeoff things -- so far so good. I have some very complex vocal material (that I also know pretty damn well) that clips the poor little stock amp if I crank it up, but it's also very difficult material to reproduce, and once again, not something you're likely to be listening critically to while driving.

Hey, with that little sub in the back, ZZ Top and C.J. Chenier sound great!

I had two Audisons in my previous car both VRX line they were very clean.
I ran these in a car with a 110 amp alternator and check the specs they pull about 3 times the juice of the 5.1 Audison.

I am sure you figured this out but you do not need a bigger alternator or a second battery and you definatly should not put a capacitor in your car.

The best best would be to upgrade the grounds in the car
1. battery to frame
2. alternator to frame
3. engine block to frame

This will help you out and save you some cash.

Great choice on the amp!

I agree 100%. I was asking those questions before the install. I did the Big "3" upgrades and all is great! Loving my Hertz speakers and Audison amp
