Garmin NUVI 880: can MINI icons be loaded into it?
Hi, Everyone.
I'm on the fence about a GPS unit for my 2009 MCS. I don't know a lot about them, either, so I thought I'd ask the folks here:
I was in BJs yesterday and the NUVI 880 was there for $599. It's down to $549 on Amazon. It's appealing to me due to its voice recognition instead of using the keyboard.
Does anyone here have a NUVI 880? Consumer Reports highly recommended it, as did the folks on Amazon.
Does anyone know if the MINI icons can be loaded into an 880 in the same manner as a NUVI 360?
Thanks!

bettehead,
That seems like a very good price for the Garmin nuvi GPS 880
Here is the link for it on Garmin's website:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=11545
The Mini icons shouldn't be a problem adding it to your Garmin.
Here is the thread for the Garmin nuvi mini.srf files:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-srf-file.html
And here is the link to the Mini file download page:
http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/F...eSharing2.html
Both of which were very helpful to me when I added the Mini icons to my Garmin nuvi 760 GPS.
I hope that helps.

^^You are very welcome and yes I am extremely happy with my Garmin nuvi 760 GPS
Plus I just added trapster which is a speed trap and red light camera notification site that warns you on your Garmin GPS if you are approaching an area. You also have the option of having the information sent directly to your cell phone too.Plus it notifies you by email if there are changes in the area you selected to download the new updates.Best of all it is free.

I hav a NUVI 780 and have been extremely happy with. I will probably trade it out in a year or so as the 880 comes down even further in prive. Overall satified with it. Use the Kuda mount!!!
^Callahan,
I've been looking at a few mounts. Is the Kuda completely removable? Does it have to be drilled into the dash? One reason I didn't want to go with the MINI portable GPS is that it's bolted onto the tachometer. I park in some places in which I don't even want the GPS mount to show, which is why I was leaning toward a suction cup mount. *shrug*
Also: if one chooses to use the GPS on battery power solely while in the car, there are NO wires required, right?
Thanks again!

The battery life is only an hour or two so you will be constantly charging. I had a power outlet added to the lighter and ran it behind the dash. I also use it for my promary music source so I ran an aux cable through the dash to the aux port. I park in the city and cover the mount with a MINI baseball hat. Because there is no wires showing, it looks like I just tossed my hat on the dash. I know for a fact that it saved me since I found palm and finger prints on the drivers window [like someone cupping there hands over their eyes to see in] and soem of the cars around me had been broken into. I can PM yo more detailed instructions on what I did [with pictures] if you are interrested.

^Callahan,
If it wouldn't be too much trouble, yes, I'd like to hear details of what and how you did your mounting, etc. I am definitely new to all of this!
Thanks a million. No rush...whenever you get to it.

The Kuda mount goes in quickly and easily -- there's another thread devoted to that.
I run Nuvi 660/680, and they work great.
