Best location for hands-free microphone

Hi guys

I have a 2008 Mini Cooper S, and have just installed the integrated blue tooth kit from Mike at newministuff. I absolutely love the kit, and right now have the microphone temporarily located next to the odometer. Once I get up a bit of speed, people do have some problems understanding what I am saying. I know this is a problem with all car kits, but I feel I could probably place the microphone better.

Can anyone recommend the optimal microphone placement? I tried to put in somewhere on the left side pillar, but couldn't work out how to remove the pillar moulding.

Any advice? Pictures would be especially welcome.

Also, anyone try out any after market microphones? Anything with a 2.5mmm jack should work

If you ambitious you can sneak the wire up the the OEM location in the roof switch console. See this thread for more details.

It might be your best location. My OEM bluetooth sounds good at any speed.

Thanks Schatzy

As I don't have the OEM Bluetooth, I'm not even sure there would be a wire running to this location in the first place. Does anyone have instructions on how to install a 3rd party Blue Tooth microphone to the OEM location in a 2008 Cabrio?

Any advice on Microphone positioning is most welcome.

Phil

Phil,

Is your car a 2008 Cabrio, If so this car is much more like the Gen 1 cars and you may find a better answer in the Gen 1 forums.

I do see that someone (moderator) moved this thread to Gen 2 but as the cabrio has not gone Gen 2 yet Gen one is probably where you need to be.

Only 2009+ cabrios if they actually end up making one will be Gen 2.

Plus i have no idea where the microphone is in a cabrio.

On another note if the top is down it will probably be impossible to speak on the phone no mater where the microphone is.

from some quick searching inthe gen one forums i found this post.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...4&postcount=15

from this post is sounds like the OEM microphone would is mounted in a very similar place to the mic in the hatchback and he clubman.

It may not be quite as easy to run the wires up there but could be done.

Also from reading some of the other posts in the Gen 1 area many people seem to think the mic should go somewhere else as well.
