I could swallow that rationale a little easier if they didn't charge $100 for a $10 cable.

The cable MINI provided for us was made specifically for the iPod/iPhone, correct?

Apparently so...

...my iPod adapter was charging my itouch, but this adapter worked only for one week, then cut on and off for the second week and now nothing...the Aux does not work either...I have the HK stereo. Very frustrating since I would rather use the Aux and have the functions of the iTouch.

I just got an iPhone 3g, not really upset that it doesn't work with the 1st gen MINI iPod adapter in my '05, I have a 5th Gen iPod for that.

But I find it very funny, that 90% of the posts in this thread are from 2nd Gen MINI owners posting in the wrong thread!

Why, what's the big deal? The issue isn't different for 2nd gen. MINIs.

Correct the issue is the same, however the forum you would post your issues and findings in would be different based on the audience reading the posts.

The 2nd Gen MINI adapter has the potential of being upgraded by MINI, not necessarily free.

The 1st Gen MINI adapter more than likely can not and will not ever have a "fix"

Not likely for the 1st Gen MINI iPod adapter.

You don't have to buy it...

Sorry, but even if the original was for the Iphone, it does not say Iphone 3G Apple CLEARLY stated then were getting away from Firewire charging. I knew this before I bought the device and was told about it openly at ATT and Apple. So it is no surpirse and I can't see how Apple, ATT or MINI owe any of you a thing. There are adapters that work for about 30 bucks.

Okay so am I missing something here Scosche claims this works.

http://scosche.com/products/sfID1/21...productID/1667

Okay this thing does not work with cables that have USB cables. May Ipod system uses a PS/2(firewire) plug . Is this the difference. Because Scosche does sell a cable with a USB end for this problem.

http://scosche.com/products/sfID1/21...productID/1598

I am only guessing here but are we dealing with 2 different plugs and 2 different gens of Mini's?

John

Scosche didn't work for me on my 09.

The Cablejive looks just like the Ridax adapter with the mini-USB plug on the side of it. The Ridax didn't work for me.

I've found that plugging it in with the door open works fine for me until they come out with the new cable.

Thanks Schulzmc.

Djdub I believe none of them will fix your 09's problem. I believe something else is going on with your installation. Good Luck.

adapter works (almost as advertised)

The Schoche Passport works (almost as advertised) for me. I saw this thread, but decided to try it anyway. When I plugged it in to my '05 Cooper S I got the warning that the device was not made to work with the iPhone (I have the 3G version) so I figured this thread was right. I would have sent it back, but I forgot to charge my phone that night and out of desperation needed it to charge the next morning in my car. Turns out it works perfectly, I just have to press "No" when the error screen pops up. It charged my iPhone even though it was nearly all out of juice and also works with my daughter's new Nano. Don't know if it works on newer Coopers, but it works on my '05.

08 Cabrio S (1st gen), adapter works perfectly with 3G iPhone. No need to manually dismiss messages, they will disappear on their own.

I just ordered a Scosche Passport. I can't get my 3G to charge using the OEM adapter no matter what I do (door trick, level of charge the phone already has, etc). Hopefully it works!

I'm the new owner of a iPhone 3G 16gb unlocked model (Italy) and love it! This thread would be soooo much more useful if there was a summary between gens. Maybe people could simply add the phrase 1stgen or 2ndgen or 05MINI or 09MINI to the end of their post when they post whether an adaptor workds or not. Just a suggestion.

It seems that the Cable Jive and Scosche adaptors solve the power issue for 1st gen owners and not for 2nd gens. Right now, the Scosche adaptor is sold out until February, so looks like I will order the Cable Jive right now.....whoa...just checked the Cable Jive--$20 for USPS--must be not in the USA---$54 for the Cable Jive...I'll look for another Scosche retailer, lol...which turns out is as close as the Apple store...woohoo.

I got mine on eBay for $22.50, shipped. Tried it out today, works like a charm!

I need to do some more cupholder modification though, to make it fit now!

This is what I did I bought a car charger for 10.00$ then I used an audio cable .99 cents and that solved it . BTW I did not opt for the iPod jack.

Got my iPhone 3G working along with the Scosche adapter. Nice to know that the iPod adaptor can be installed at the same time as the AUX in for my Garmin.
