SIRIUS

Okay, so I'll be installing the MINI Siruis unit in Ferris probably the middle of next week. I've done quite a bit of searching and it seems like it's a pretty straight forward install (move passenger seat back or unbolt, find connectors and connect them then bolt the unit to the floorbaord and reseat/reinstall seat followed by a trip to the dealer for a systems flash). Anyone have any pointers or things that I may have missed? There weren't that many threads about installing the stock unit (most are talking about aftermarket units) so I may have missed something.

Thanks guys!

You will probably have to remove the seat to get the cover off the opening in the floor.

Wheter you remove the seat or not make sure you DISCONNECT THE BATTERY.

If you do not you will have to have them reset the air bag light, the wiring is very sensitive to being touched or disconnected.

It is also a good idea to disconnect the battery anyway.

Or at the very least, leave the keys in the house so you don't accidentally turn on the car. I have an appointment for next Saturday to get my airbag light reset.

Disconnect battery and don't turn on the car while the airbag connector is loose . . . check!

Anything else?

Ok sorry to bring this up again but I just receive the install kit. There are quite a few more things than I originally thought. Along with the Sirius module there are several plastic panels, a mounting bracket, odd screws and tabs, and a template but no instructions.

I haven't had a chance to get the seat out and look to see if there is an obvious way of mounting this thing but I thought I'd at least ask if anyone has any instructions for this thing. I've done some searching and only come up with the install for the older Coopers.

Any help is much appreciated.

I haven't installed one, but I can tell you that under the plastic panel under the seat, you'll find a nice piece of Styrofoam with the Sirius connections taped to it. I would assume that it's as simple as pulling the foam out and putting the pieces you received in, but not having done it...I don't know for sure.

I am very interested in doing the same thing. How much did you pay for the OEM sirius kit and where did you order it from?

I actually got it off the marketplace from a fellow NAMer. He was selling for quite a bit below retail. Granted this doesn't include any kind of subscription.

BTW, I get it for free in my truck. I didn't have to do anything special... they just never turned it off after I canceled a few years ago. The radio is big, old, and doesn't have any special features. But it works for free and it has one of those FM transmitters that is too powerful for FCC specs... so it's worth a lot to me.

Nope, never got the instructions, but I did discover that a lot of the parts are redundant. The large plastic piece replaces the one already in the car and will only go in one way. You end up with extra screws as the ones in the car will be replaced. Really it's not that bad and once you get in there and start it makes sense what to do.

Geekswrath, do I need to order a new plastic cover, or can I use the one that comes with the car? In Canada we need to order all the parts separately, and I'd like to know what I need to order, and what I can reuse from the car. From what I see, I need to order the multifunction box, sirius module, sirius bracket, and a bunch of misc. screws. Does this sound right?

If you look under the seat and a cover is already there you should be ok. The stock cover isn't a perfect fit but the difference is very minimal. I think I'm actually using the stock piece instead of the one that came with the kit.

That looks about right but I'd have to take the seat off to be sure. If I get a chance I'll do so this weekend and get back to you. I knew I should've taken pictures.
