Clubman Hi-Fi amp location

Does anyone know where they mounted the amplifier for the HiFi stereo in the R55 Clubman?

I have not taken the back of the car apart yet and thought i would ask if anyone knows so that i do not have to spend hours looking in places in may not be.

Right side of the boot. I had an oil spill and I had to replace the panel that covers it.

You mean under the side panel, like next to the wheel well, not on the floor of the car.

What kind of oil did you spill? hopefully it was something that smelled nice.

And thanks for the info

Yes, under the side panel next to the wheel well. It didn't smell nice. It was gear oil for my truck and it happened two days after I brought the car home. I had to replace three separate pieces of trim. Fortunately, I was able to get the oil manufacturer to cover the cost, which was nearly $300.

Good going on the getting someone else to pay for it.

Did you take that panel out yourself and if so was there any screws to remove.

My girlfriend has my car today as i need the BMW wagon to car a few things that would actually not fit in the Clubman but just barely fit in the BMW wagon. SO i can not look to see what it will take.

I am considering replacing the amp at the same time I replace the speakers but want to see if i can find an amp that will fit an be totally hidden just like the OEM.

Again thanks for your assistance on this.

  • You have to pop off the caps that cover those anchor rings. Be careful, I broke one of mine. Then use a torx bit to remove the anchors themselves... I don't remember what size.
  • Pop off the plastic piece that the shelf sits on. That comes out pretty easily.
  • Take out the plastic trim piece that goes across the boot threshold. That's held in with plastic fasteners...I don't think there are any screws there.
  • I think there's a phillips screw on the plastic trim piece that sits above tire well (where your boot cover locks in). The screw needs to come out, but the plastic trim piece itself just needs to be loosened up a bit.
  • Once all that is done, I think there are three (or four at most) plastic rivets that need to come out of the tire well trim piece.
After that, it's just a matter of wrestling it out of there. You have to get it around the seat latch (which lifts up by the way). You don't have to remove any of the plastic inserts that are mounted in the piece.

Reinstalling it is basically the same except you have to get the weatherstripping to cover the piece. It's a pretty tough piece and it doesn't break easily. I was impressed with the amount of padding on the back side of it which helps to cut down on road noise. Try driving around without it and you'll see the difference it makes immediately.

I'm sure you'll probably take pictures and document this process a lot better. I'll be interested to see if you can get an aftermarket amp back there.

One more thing... if you think of it, can you check to see if there are any wires that go to the AMP that supply 12V only when the radio is turned on? I was thinking about testing them to see if I could tap in there for my satellite radio, but I didn't feel like pulling it apart again. Thanks.

Will not know until i open it up, but it is probably just an analog amp.

I think i can actually see it through the vent in the side panel and it appears there may be some extra room around it.

Be sure to check out the new Botanical Gardens up there. I hear they're nice, but they don't allow pets.

I have been to the gardens before they are very nice. We are gathering with friends that live in Booth Bay Harbor as well as some from as far way as Florida.

I just hope the weekend stay dry as we are camping. I hate when it rains and we am Tent Camping. Just not a fun thing. But we will make the best of it no matter what weather we have.

But we will not be going in the Mini as we have the teenager, his friend, Christie (the dog 80 lbs black lab) two large tents, four bikes, two large coolers, clothing etc. So we are taking the BMW wagon. Even if i had a hitch to use a bike mount with, Christie and four people make the Mini still a little to small.

Wow... that is a big load. We're planning on taking our Goldendoodle pup (25 lbs and growing fast!) camping up to Acadia next month and it'll be our first time up there in the Clubman. No teenagers or friends though.
