Garmin factory install kit

I bought a Garmin 350 at Best Buy and just had the dealer install the factory kit. It seems to work just fine but...the Garmin lights up when I open the door and I have to maually shut it off if not needed. Also when the Garmin is on and I stop the car it stays on. I not sure when and if it ever goes off as I have not waited arround long enough to see. Has anyone got a similar set up that fires up and off more conveniently. I am nnot sure the dealer hooked it up to the right power source.

The garmin will power on when it notices a power source. When the car starts, it sends power to the garmin via the USB connection and turns it on. When the power source is removed, it goes to a screen which asks you if you wish to continue on battery power. Otherwise it will shut off in 30 seconds.

I have the Nuvi 360 with the OEM bracket. I installed it myself and it works exactly the same way. The power comes on when you open the door and stays on when you shut off the engine. I think it eventually goes off after a few minutes.

I have a Nuvi 760 that I'll use in my JCW when it arrives. However, I also have the MSN Direct receiver, so I'll be looking into the best solution for that.

Is there just the one cigarette lighter socket in the console, or is there another one of the same type I can use in the car?

I have a Garmin Nuvi 370 and I did my own install of the bracket and it works as you describe. It eventually shuts off. I usually remove mine before I get out the car unless I park in my garage.
