Best Buy install question

i have a clubman arriving next week. I have a pair of JL audio 6.5" and 4" speakers for the fronts and an Infinity Basslink II to be installed in the boot.

Can best buy handle this ? it doesn't seem that hard to me (for an install shop). No need to even get to the factory non-hifi headunit, correct ?

I SHOULD take it to the "good place" here in town, but they are 2x expensive, and i have $$ gift cards for BB i can use towards install.

so...thoughts?

can BB handle it?

thanks,

stephen

My 2 cents, go professional.

Just a quick google threw up lots of links. Here are a few.

Of course YMMV.

I'd ask you local BB if they've done similar work on other Minis before I turned the car over to them. The reason the other shop quoted more could be that they've done Minis before and there's more to it than meets the eye. I think BB starts taking stuff apart and asks questions later. A friend had them do some speakers and the job took like 4 times the hours they anticipated, so she got a good deal, but they said they'd never do a similar job for that price again.

Also see if the best buy will give you references as i have two best buys with in 60 mile of me and one does great work and will give references and those people will show their cars so you can see what kind of job they have done. the other best (worst) buy does a horrible job and will even charge you for the extra hours if it takes them longer than they said it would, and they do not have a reference list.

Best Buy installation departments are only as good as the people they have working there and as far as i know Best Buy does not require any type of specialized training to work in the install dept. But some do have the professionals with lots of training.

do what makes you comfortable....i love BB, to buy DVD's and such, but i would NEVER have them touch my car.

I had four guy friends work in the install bays at BB (all different sites)- they said their workers could care less about cars. they would tell me horror stories....setting people seats on fire (by accident), cutting wires too short and cant replace them...destroying interiors...catching them smoking inside the car

"ghetto-rigging"....as they so eloguently put it

really they just want to get paid and go home? at least thats from what i know about personally knowing their install people

but maybe its just a baltimore thing

There is a news story out on the interweb where one of the big box electronics retailers installed a system in a Honda and caused more than $12K worth of damage. I think that I would go pro.
