Bad NAV DVD

I took delivery of my clubman last week only to find out the NAV DVD is bad. The dealer is telling me the DVD is on a national back order. After 7 days of waiting for an answer I am not closer to having a functional NAV system. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there somewhere besides the dealer where I can get the DVD?

I would call MINI USA customer service 1-866-646-4463 and complain because you spent a lot of money for your new Clubman and they should have available replacement NAV DVD disc's for problems that owner's may run into.A national backorder sounds kind of fishy to me.

Personally I wouldn't buy a replacement NAV DVD since you already paid for it when you bought your car.

Get MINI USA involved.

okay at least you got a bad nav dvd. i ordered my 08 mini cooper S and it arrived two weeks ago. i didn't even get a dvd to go with it. i think some one stole it! i got the same story from the dealer. they told me that nav dvd is on national backorder. But then they called me a week later and told me my nav dvd has arrived and to come pick it up. I came in so excited and then i put the dvd in and the nav still asks me to insert the nav dvd. the dealer service department told me it is the wrong dvd and that i actually need a nav cd. i don't think they know what they are talking about. i have a dvd reader it says so on the unit where you stick in the dvd. anyhow after reading the forums it turns out there is an 2008.1 version of my nav dvd. the one they ordered for me was copyright in 2007 and the part number is 65 90 0 431 727. So i am guessing I need the latest version of the nav dvd for my mini to read it. now i got to call the dealer tomorrow and let them know. they seriously have no clue why the 2007 copyrighted dvd they ordered doesn't work.

ochoocho - you can always do what I did. Call Navteq - the supplier of the DVD for Mini. They can have a DVD to you within 48 hours for a reasonable charge. Once I received the DVD, inserted it, and verified it was the right onw I was on the horn with Mini USA. I explained my frustration with how the dealership still could not find the right DVD after over 3 1/2 weeks, but yet I was able to get one in two days. The very same day I called and complained to Mini USA a funny thing happened. My dealer called to tell me that the navigation DVD had arrived. Coincidence? I think not. They just did not want to reimburse me the $220 for the DVD - all of which was refunded to me by Navteq no questions asked.

Thanks again

Had the same problem with my 07 MCS that I picked up this past Jan. Went back to the dealer within a week (for the Nav and other post delivery fixups, etc!).

They replaced the DVD with the correct one and it works. I can still grumble about the human interface problems that this unit has ...(lots of other posts here on that topic!) but why bother...I bought it to drive it, not watch the Nav screen! (Before you ask, I bought the car (off the lot) for all the other nice things the dealer put on it..not the Nav system!)

I bought a new 08 Nav dvd, it does not work, the system hangs very often with it. Went back to the 07 version. Maybe they had some problems with the 08 dvd.???

I purchased the version released in march of '08. If you have an '08 you need to make sure you get the professional version. Navteq makes two and the other will not work correctly. I was also informed by Navteq that they update the Mini DVD's once per year in March.

So, I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, but you did stick it in the DVD slot right (behind the removable face plate)?

yes i did stick it in the right slot and so did the service people. its the wrong disk. i took your advice nicoblake and called both miniusa and navteq. navteq definitely has them available in stock however when i talked to my service advisor the story he got from the parts manager was that they are on national back order. i told my service guy that i just got off the phone with navteq and they have plenty of the dvd's in stock. he didn't believe me. i told him to call them. he did and he told the parts guy and apparently i should have my dvd in two days. lets see what happens. hopefully I'll get it soon. Geez... wish me luck i hope i get mine soon. just sucks to have something you order and pay for not work, luckily the nav interface is more than just a nav. thank goodness for that!!!

Yep, hope you get it soon. I would make one suggestion: Make a disc image of the NAV disc and burn a copy to use in your car. That way you can keep the original safe and sound. I've been running with the same backup disc in my car since May 2007. If anything happens to it just burn a new copy. Of course you need to get a working copy first.

one additional advice to add. burn it at 1X. It will take a while but burning it slow will make sure the tracks are burned correctly and it will be darker.
