I think they are a little on the bright side.

I also wish the system had more bass, but that is not the fault of the speakers. The system clips the lower bass going to the rear speakers. So only the 6" in the doors produce it. My guess is that base in the rear caused the plastic side panels to vibrate and MINI took the easy way out.
So, with your new Infinity Kappas, are you able to increase your bass settings and get a benefit over the stock speakers? I currently have my bass set to -2 for my iPod and -0 for my radio. If I raise the bass from these levels, it really can bottom out on a bassy song if I crank the volume some.

And the big question: Would you buy the Kappas again, given the result you got?

I'll admit I'm a bad 3rd MINI owner- I've had it a week and haven't read the book -- great to know though, I'll go digging for this.

The HiFi sound system is TERRIBLE. Anything over 1/2 volume and you get nothig but distortion. Thow in any bob Marley and knock that down to 1/4 volume.

If what you say is true, something is really wrong with your stereo.
Are you using an iPod?
If so, have you made the necessary adjustments to the iPod? (EQ off and Volume Limiter off)
Have you made the adjustments to the car settings? (-1 or -2 on Bass, +2 Rear Speakers; increased the AUX volume)

It may not be Bang & Olufsen, but it is by no means "TERRIBLE" and 'nothing but distortion'. Maybe you just need some red, red wine?

Hmmm I thought the same. Mine is just fine and I've listened to Mr Marley at a nice loud volume and it sounded clear. Maybe they improved the Hi Fi in the 08
