OEM Nuvi bracket and hardwire -- powering on?

I searched the forum and came up empty handed on this one...

After having installed the OEM Nuvi mounting bracket (including the hardwire), I can't figure out what the expected Power On/Off behavior should be.

Based on how mine appears to be behaving currently, the unit powers up as soon as I open the door. I would've otherwise expected the unit to remain off until I turned on the other in-vehicle electronics.

As for powering off, my unit appears to be staying on for a couple of minutes after I've turned off the car and exited the vehicle. Again, I would've expected the unit to turn off when the engine is off and the key is removed. Clearly, my expectations are far too rational.

Can anyone confirm how the Nuvi should be behaving power-wise when using the OEM mount?

Thanks.

This exactly how mine behaves, and it was installed by the dealer.
You should be good to go.

Awesome -- thanks for confirming. I had a heck of a time with the wiring, so it's really helpful to know I didn't screw it up too badly.

I did my own install and that is exactly how it works. Hopefully you saw this thread with info on the wiring:

I did see that thread, and thanks very much for taking time to write up your experiences. Adding your info to that from the OEM install booklet was about the only thing that helped me figure it out.

I'm glad it helped. I did extensive searching before my install and couldn't find detailed info.

Yeah, thats right. Next you need to find a Garmin GTM 10,11 or 12 for traffic updates. I found a GTM 11 on ebay on the cheap (came with 15 month subscription) and hid it under the dash. Works great!

I've been debating whether or not to get the traffic receiver. It seems kind of pricey for what you get. Does it just show accident locations or does it also show the green/red bars along the roads indicating traffic speed. Did you run the traffic receiver cable along the bracket and behind the dash with the power cable?

Right - I just ran the cable with the power cable for the nuvi. It does require any additional power, and then hid the unit inside the "knee" panel. It shows traffic accidents, slow downs, etc, but I dont think you get any info if the roads are clear.
