The new goodies: amp, speakers, sub in false floor
Hey Guys,
I thought I'd go ahead and show off the new toys. Took my car to a stereo shop to have them look at an issue I was having with my new JL amp. $1400 later, I came out with something like this:
-Alpine PDX-5 amp (75w x 4 + 300w x 1 for sub)
-Rockford Fosgate Slim-Line 10'' Punch subwoofer in custom box with false floor
-powering the 6 existing TR-series JL speakers I had been running off the old JL amp
I didn't know much about Alpine when I went in there to ask about sub amps, but I realized I could save a whole lot of weight, space, and power consumption if I returned my JL 4 channel and broke down and bought the PDX-5. This thing is TINY. It powers all of my speakers AND a sub, and sounds awesome. The sub hits HARD and is very clean even at very loud volumes. They put a bass reducer on the front 4'' speakers as they were getting a little squirrely at higher volumes. But the system as a whole ties very well together now.
They did a pretty good job on the sub enclosure and false floor too. Check it out. Sorry for the crappy iPhone pics!:

Very clean! I have almost exactly the same amp/sub setup in my trunk as well. U mentioned u have 6 jl's in place where the factory speakers used to be. Im thinking about replacing mine as well. Do u kno of any links that show step by step on how to access all 6 speaker areas? Also how do i access the stock stereo to connect the stereo to the amp?
I'm a huge fan of JLAudio equipment and I found this at their site:
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...hp?page_id=245 This has so many applications in our cars, that I can't begin to talk about!

Thumper, check the archives of this forum for how-to's. There is one posted by outmotoring, and I found this one to be pretty useful as well:

As far as signal, I originally had tapped the front speaker lines but ended up having a shop pull the dash and tap the leads at the head unit.

I appreciate all the fast responses to my questions. So far Ive got my wires in place and waiting for my components to arrive. Still though, my question regarding accessing the factory stereo was left unanswered. Anybody know anything?
