Palm Centro with R56 Bluetooth?

Has anyone been using a Palm Centro from Sprint with their R56 bluetooth? I've read the thread about the treo's messing with the bluetooth module: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=106282

I've been using the centro on mine for about a week with no problems. It only transfers my contacts that I have a favorite button set up for, not my whole contact list, which is fine cause those are the only people I ever really call anyway.

Anyone else use the centro or could I be the first MINI owner to use one?

Thanks for the Good information

I'm happy to hear that someone has been successful using their Palm Centro from Sprint. I just ordered my MCS today (now the long 8 week wait begins)...but was hoping that my Centro would work. Good to hear that it does!!!

Centro

Does it save your favs over and over like I read in the link you posted previously? That's kind of frightening to think that every time a person uses their Bluetooth phone they could be damaging the Mini's bluetooth system. I think it's ridiculous that they have only 2 phones listed for Sprint. Good grief. How difficult could it possibly be for BMW/Mini to incorporate some other phones?

I don't know if it saves them over and over again. There is no indication that it does. All I know is that so far everything is fine.

Well I'm going to use my Centro too...so hopefully I'll have the same good luck as you have had. Thanks again for the info.

Palm bluetooth stacks are the worst. The engineers resonsable for their bluetooth should hang their heads in shame and get jobs at their local McDonalds.

Palm stacks

I assume by stacks, you mean that the Bluetooth continues to receive the same info from the Palm over and over, causing it to overload and eventually shut down? I'm not an IT person, so I'm just guessing that is what you mean. Have you heard of any fixes for this, or in your opinion, should I just not even try to sync my Centro with the Mini Bluetooth?

So far, this has only been reported with the Palm Treo 755p. The MINI actually syncs with the phone each time for every phone- the car is not supposed to keep the information, but there seems to be some issue between the MINI and the 755p that causes the Bluetooth module to become 'clogged'.

It also happens with the Sony Ericsson 850i. In all three cases that I've seen it happened in one to two months, so it's reasonable to expect that the Centro doesn't have the same issue, since there's more than one or two people that have used it for months without any problems

Thanks...

for the info. I'll give it a try when the Mini arrives. Hopefully I'll be able to use it without screwing up the Bluetooth.

Hi, all (first post). I'm using a Verizon Centro in my brand new '08 R56, and I find that there's no syncing of phone numbers at all, favorites or otherwise. All I get is "Please wait", and then "No entries".

Oh no!

So does the Centro work at all with the Bluetooth in your new '08 Cooper?

Well, it seems to work moderately well with the Bluetooth. It works as a hands-free setup if I dial from the phone or if I answer a call... And I can manually enter a number on the display (and boy, is THAT cumbersome!) and it'll dial it. Presumably if it can do that I can also use voice dialing to tell it what digits to dial, though I haven't tried that yet (just picked up the car on Monday).

Unfortunately, this wouldn't be the first time a phone works with the address book on another carrier, but not with Verizon.

I've added a specific entry for the Verizon version for now. I don't see any firmware updates available from Verizon, so that's not an option.

Do you have some calls in your missed, received and dialed calls? Someone posted a rumor that it could make a difference. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but it's worth a try. Also, I'm assuming that you have a contact or two entered in the Favorites? All of the Palm phones are known to limit the Bluetooth address book to the Favorites.

Yep, typical VZW crippleware. I don't have anything showing up in the missed or received calls list (but I haven't missed any calls, and I couldn't swear that I've received any in the car). I do have one entry in the top 8, which is a number I dialed from the MINI dash.

I have several contacts in the Favorites. I had 'em all on page 2, but I tried moving one to page 1 to see if it made a difference.

I don't know about Sprint, but on the VZW phone the favorites come pre-populated with a bunch of stuff, only some of which are phone numbers (and all of those are "#something", like #BAL). Many are shortcuts to applications.

My sprint version came preloaded with favorites on the first page as well. I deleted them all and added all of my own stuff. I think the only ones you can't delete are contacts, voicemail, and call log. So now all of my favorite numbers(there are only 8 of them.) are on the first page.

Like I said, I have been using my sprint version since Feb. with no problems.

There is something you might try though...long shot but it might work. You can reboot the phone by removing the battery and then re-inserting it. This has fixed other non-mini related issues in the past.

If it doesn't work, it may just be software that is not compatible on the verizon end. Hope this helps.
