Playing DVDs on NAV screen in 2007 MINI

hello all!

Has anyone figured out a way to play DVD movies on the factory NAV system in a 2007 MINI? I ask because sometimes I see an option to play DVDs but it is grayed out. I know GM cars have a "test mode" that you can enter so you can watch DVDs while you are driving.

thanks

Todd

I believe that option is only there for playing a DVD audio (i.e. MP3) disc. If you remove the map disc from the nav and insert a DVD full of MP3 audio files, the DVD option will become enabled so that you can listen to the disc. However, AFAIK the DVD drive in the factory nav does not support playing actual DVD movie discs.

Also, to date, no one (again, AFAIK) has created a video input for use with the factory nav in the R56 yet (so that you can plug in your own DVD player, etc.). I'm sure that they'll come along sooner or later though.

If you look at the list of voice commands in the owners manual, one of them is "DVD Video Menu". Ive said it, and the car responded that the disk in the drive is unreadable or the wrong format. I tried this with a DVD in both the CD drive and the Nav drive.

Hmm... Maybe it has something to do with the TV tuner option that's only available in the European market??? Dunno...

Hi guys,

There's a way to add an external video input using this device:

Here's another option:

Good Luck

Those are for the first gen MINI. TheOfficeMaven has also done a writeup on video input.

For the R56, there has been discussion about video input and links to wiring diagrams here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=103787
The problem is that it may require the European TV option, and/or commands over the data bus.

Yep! Thanks rkw

I was indeed able to figure out how to get a video input into the 1st gen MINI's nav system using the OEM rear-view camera kit. I'd like to think I could do something similar on the 2nd gen cars, but so far I haven't seen a rear-view camera available for it.

If I could get a hold of one of the European TV tuners, I'd give that one a shot, but they're probably BIG bucks right now with the way the dollar is in the toilet compared to the Pound and the Euro.

Hopefully, another company will come up with a reasonably priced adapter (i.e. around $250 or less). I'm not going to start holding my breath any time soon though.
