Navigation & Audio USB Audio Port In 2007 MINIs
Looks like another 07 with the USB port show up on a week 32er; delivered to Germany again like the first one we heard of.

The other dirty little secret I'll share with you is that said Mac Laptop running Windows XP/Vista boots 2x faster with the same spec processor and ram and runs more reliably. Go figure.
remeber when they said the power mac processor was the bomb and the g4 was x2 a x86...and now they run x86 hardware and let mac users dual boot to make up for the lack of OSX games or somthing.
THE best thing of all is the 200$ US price drops on iPhones....that is the best hardware back screwover ever.

my name is Bee Hatch..sound like biatch, but stands for Black Hatch....like my old b18c5 civic hatch, and my new Astro black Mini Hatch.
However, the later the build week the more likely it might actually happen. Of course, if paying for bluetooth isn't a big deal, and a USB port is important to you, go for it!
To continue the eXTREME thread derailing....
Only on an Apple product could you have a $200/33% price drop and everyone complains.
I was almost distracted by the new iTouches, but then I snapped out of it and realized I'd be paying $50 more for 10 times less space. Hrm, lessee - carry around my MP3 collection, or merely 1/10th of it? When you look at it that way it's not much of a choice at all.
If I really wanted an iTouch I might as well fork over the extra $100 and get an iPhone. But then I couldn't be the last person on the planet w/o a cell phone. Starving children in third world countries will have a cell phone before me.

Back on topic...
So it seems to me that Bluetooth/USB is one of the better options. You get not only Bluetooth but also fully integrated MP3 playback from USB storage and full integration with iPod (with $50-$100 cable). The only thing you don't get is being able to leave the iPod in the hidden compartment (easily remedied with extension cables). The option is $600, which is less than some have paid for just a dealer installed iPod adapter. The only thing I don't like is the armrest that comes with it. Gabe (MotoringFile) says the armrest itself comes off easily but you have to replace the entire center console trim piece to get rid of the armrest support frame.

No need for a HD radio for me, BUT - no one should make fun of that option that needs Park Distance Control in a MINI of all things!!
Whats next - Fuel guage reminder that you are at 75% remaining???
BTW - Birdman, you make this forum a little more exciting and you are DS man like me.. much love..

LOL!! And by the way, we already have built in % remaining reminders on the MINIs!! You have 10 candy corns, each representing 10% of the tank left, and when you hit 20%, they turn red, and an additional icon pops up on lcd display.
Theory/proof: HD = Apple
1. Apple makes the ipod, and Apple Sucks.
2. HD doesn't make sense.
Therefore, HD and the ipod suck!!
As for me making it a bit more exciting, great!! I must say, some folks take thing WAYYYY to personal on websites, ESPECIALLY this one!! Anyone else notice folks on the MINI site seem to be a bit more "sensative"?
HOW DARE YOU ACCUSE ME OF TAKING THINGS PERSONALLY?!!??!??!?!??!?
I'm confused. If you ordered Bluetooth you may get USB and if you didn't order Bluetooth you absolutely won't get USB??? What does Bluetooth have to do with USB???
Following this thread makes me wish I had ordered Bluetooth (useless to me) just to get the USB (suddenly verrry attractive). I wonder if this can be retrofitted if we don't have it? Could they install it at the VDC? Could this drive down the ridiculous price of the ipod integration?

By the way, my MA said there was no USB port in my production week 32 MCS.
You may be right, but how is it these folks in England & Germany are getting the USB ports? Are their Minis on a whole different production line with different sets of options? I'm just trying to find some reason to hope for my week 34 Mini crossing the pond right now. Buying a cheap portable drive and a cable is a lot more appealing than buying a $300 Ipod and a $500 Ipod adapter.

Yes, you MUST have the Bluetooth prep option (or the convenience package which includes the Bluetooth prep option) in order to receive the USB port. Apparently, MINI is using the module that controls the Bluetooth functionality to also control the USB port. Thus, even though they don't really have anything to do with one another, you still have to have the Bluetooth prep option in order to get the USB port as that's the way it's being packaged in the car.
As for retrofitting... If it does happen, it will probably be quite expensive since the Bluetooth prep is a $600 factory option (probably $650 in 2008). I would imagine that it will run around $400 or so for the parts and then another huge chunk of change to have the stealers install it and code the car's computer in order to recognize it.
Thanks for clarifying. I'm off to buy a 50 pack of CD-R's. I guess Apple needs to get to work if they want to sell more iPods.
That-a-boy!! Now your talkin!!!
I have to mention, I love the MP3 CD interface on the MINI (on the NAv screen). Very easy to navigate thru folders and songs...
What's an "Ipod"???

BTW, I do find it encouraging that the new door sills are making it to the US in 07 Minis. What would be the rationale of putting USB into European 07 Minis but not into US 07 Minis? Ah well, we can speculate until the cows come home. We'll just have to wait and see if any come through.

I just picked up a week 32 build and in the audio manual there's a whole section on iPod/USB use. And there is a special addendum manual for the car that goes into a couple of things like the new tire pressure system and USB-Audio Interface. I didn't get the Bluetooth option so there's no USB to check.
It looks like week 33 didn't get it:
Maybe they're holding it up until they sell through the stock of ipod adapters in the US?
