Retrofit Aux in on used MINI

So I can't remember, if the 2006 and 05 mini's came with a aux in adapter standard

I recall it as an extra charge

If so, is it easier to have it installed by a dealer or do it myself?

And if myself, any threads with DIY instructions?

Quite easy to do yourself, I'm not very mechanically inclined and I've done it without a problem for a couple of people.

The only complications you may run into is if you have the factory Navigation system, because in that case you have to transfer a couple of wires over to the Aux input connector, or else you'd lose the Navigation voice.

If you don't have the OEM factory Nav, it's a cinch to hook up. Then you just drill a couple of small holes where you want to mount the input, and Voila you're done!

...or you don't drill any holes, because you need a male-male cable anyway, and you just leave the male end dangling in whichever location you choose.

Sure, if you want... I personally LIKE having a nice, clean aux jack, from which I can remove the male-male cable if I want to, and the aux jack remains, looking like it came that way from the factory.

It is very self-evident when you look at the back of the radio, but I'm pretty sure the instructions that come with the aux input show you anyway.

It's a very easy install. Heck even this electrically challenged old fart managed it.

Call Aaron at Outmotoring & he'll fix you up....

Here are some pics to help visualize where you would plug it in at the back of the HU.

It's kinda dark put on the far right of the pic is where it would go.

And an extreme close-up of it...

From an electical standpoint... the #3 pin is for L+, the #4 pin is for R+, and the #10 pin is the ground.

I did a whole write up on it if you're interested (though mine is a completely DIY aux input)

Good luck with the install

Man I wish you'd have posted those before I did mine. Your pictures are very helpful. I never remember to take photos when I have things apart.

Love your sig. I have those very same scoops.

Why does the OutMotoring P/N state, "ALSO, does NOT work on any year Gen 1 MINI with the stock Cassette deck OR the 6 CD changer installed!!"

We just discussed the fact that the OEM CD changer will indeed work with an AUX input in this thread.

I'm cornfused.

I can't tell you why that is. If you call Aaron I'm sure he knows why.

My best guess is that the CD changer uses the output needed for the aux input.

Because it's wrong.

Don't be. There's no incompatibility.

I'd be curious to hear it... perhaps calling Aaron to suggest he correct the statement would be better. Note: This is nothing against Aaron. Very good guy... but the CD changer cable is completely independent of the OEM Aux Input. Period.

But if you have it in the OEM specified location, it's in your glove compartment.

I used to have the ipod sitting in the mini (aka useless) cupholder - now I use a Belkin auto dok.
