6.5" front speakers, anyone installed them?

Hi, I just want to upgrade the speakers of my MC and I want to know if a 6.5" speakers will fit in the front holes, or if I need to do any modification to install them, please post pics or the list of things that I need to do this mod and how. I will appreciate your help.

yes, they will fit and yes you'll need to mod to do it. You need spacer rings...the stock speakers have a built in one. I'm actually considering 8" midbass drivers in the door

I put in 6.5" JBL's with no problem. I had to use a mounting ring because the factory speakers have an odd hole pattern. It all took about...well less than two hours to do the front and rear speakers.

I had Focal 6 1/2 K2P's installed in my doors. You will need a spacer ring to extend them out. In addition if you want to use the stock speaker grills you will need some modification there also depending on the speaker you choose. On the Focal's the four tabs that use a plastic rivet to hold them to the doors hit the surround of the speakers. I'm sure if left that way that the speakers would be damaged over time. My installer ground off the four tabs and super glued the grills onto the door panels. That worked great. No interferance with the speaker and it still looks stock.

I put in Polk db 6500's in my front doors with a spacer ring from Crutchfield.

No problems, very easy to do.

Just put my Pioneer Premiere 6 3/4" mids in the door with no problem. Just had to make enough of a spacer to clear the window rail and it still cleared the stock grille from behind.

gilll7 -- How do your tweeters sound in the stock location. I'm playing with positioning of my tweeters right now and can't seem to find a position that sounds right.

I had my Focal Access 165A components installed by Circuit City. They used their spacers. I've also read that the Access Poly 165V2 will fit with spacers.

HA HA. Now that is actually where I have mine right at the moment just sticking up on a pair of backstraps while I demo the imaging for a few days. It sounded a lot better than the door location when I was testing it out. I'll probably glass some pods this week if I get time.

generally speaking point source if preferable to A-pillar mount. I'd try the tweeters down by the midbass before going to the trouble to mount them up high.

I'm working on an R56....the owner picked up the A-pillars from the upgraded system available at ordering time (HiFi I think?). I was able to mount the tweeters from a Polk SR6500 set in there...almost as if they were made to fit. Perfect size....just a bit of hot melt to secure as the shape of the housing was a bit off from the stock tweeters. The woofers fit in teh stock location very well with just a single spacer ring...much easier than the R53 once you get the door panel off (which is a bit of a pain compared to the older car).

Yeah, I tried down my the mids but the driver's side got completely buried by my leg and I couldn't hear them very well. I am going to redo the mount for the mids and try to angle both of them up and back a bit so they are both on a similar plane. Realistically the Mini is just too small to be able to image well. It's a lot easier in my Accord since you aren't sitting right on top of everything, but it is more fun to drive the Mini.
