HK midrange / tweeter

My mid range and tweeter speaker set on my HK system has a crackling sound. I have tried to get the dealer to fix this but they told me that they can't reproduce the problem. It only does it on certain frequencies and they probably did not throuroughly test it. Anyways.... My car will be out of warranty in 2 months and depending on where I can get and how much the OEM replacements are I don't really want to deal w/ the dealer on this issue.

So, where can you get replacements? Do they just install and plug in from the front? If the OEM unit is not available is there an aftermarket midrange/tweeter component that could be used?

Thanks,
k

Only place I know of to get replacements are at the dealer. Why don't you show them since you know it happens at a certain range?

Exactly what daflake said... figure out how you can consistently reproduce the problem (perhaps with a particular song? Try to find 2 songs that do it, so they can't simply say that the recording is bad on the first one), and show them again.

My understanding is that H/K replacement parts are not cheap. I do have a full set (all speakers & the amp) that I'll be trying to sell soon (as a set), which would probably serve someone very well that wants to have spare parts for their out-of-warranty MINI.

Just in case your asking price is something I can consider please PM when you decide to sell.

Will do. I pretty much know what the price is going to be already... but the tweeters haven't been removed yet from my MINI, so I don't have the complete set on hand. The mid-ranges from the front, the rear speakers and the amp are sitting here at my house though.

My suggestion first is to price out each of the speakers and the amp so you know what the "sting" is when going that way. Perhaps get the part numbers for each speaker type & the amp (try RealOEM.com), and email Morristown MINI (they tend to have the best deal - 20% under MSRP) to see what they cost.

Of course, this is all academic... you should still be focused on trying to solve your existing problem with your warranty!

Could also be the amp that is causing the problem.

I have a similar issue I need to bring to the dealer's attention. I notice it on voices a lot, even AM radio.
