Do I need do update my MTH tuner file after fitting a bigger throttle body?

 

Yes, no doubt! I had a mad flat spot after intalling the larger TB. After a new file it all basically went away. -- Johan

 

Any time you change even one power mod you'll want to get a new file.

Let us know how the the TB w/file goes. Enquiring minds want to know.

 

Save your money -- do NOT change the TB. The increased air flow will do nothing except mess up the computer. The bottle neck on the Mini is not on the intake side but rather the exhaust side -- the valves they are too small. But if you want to buy something that will improve the perfomance get a header or exhaust system.

So you dont recommend me to buy the TB? Will there be no performance increase? Nothing at all?

You said it will mess up the computer. Is this a bad thing? Will it damage the engine?

I'm not sure if you have an MCS or not but I would go with a 15% pulley before a larger TB for a greater performance improvement.

From what I've heard the performance gain of a larger throttle body is not fully felt until you go with P&P head/cam, header. this will open up the entire air passage from intake to exhaust. If you are only opening up the intake and the exhuast, but not the head, you still have a bottleneck. The larger TB will give you a minor perfomance increase and better throttle response but you will no doubt need an MTH update as many have reported a flat spot in the power band without an ecu update.
