confused about cost

I am confused, I see on the mth website that the tuner file costs 300 Euros, which is about $345 I think. The cable then costs about $70, adding up to $415.

I have however seen on the mth vs unichip thread that people have claimed that mth only costs $60, less than $100, and less than $200. What am I missing here?

So when people are talking about $60, less than $100, and less than $200, they are talking about the standard. Still doesnt quite make sense.

What is this $60? This makes no sense to me. $60(?) plus the cable ($70) = $130US?

With the earlier figures, $160 Euros is like $185US? That would make sense when someone says under $200, but multiple people have mentioned $60 and under $100. What is this $60 price?

If you go back in history a while, MTH cost less than it does now. Also, there was no "tuner" package. With the volume that came with such a steal, MTH got swamped, and changed the business model a bit.

Since I've had it for quite a while, I don't know all the current deals...

But you need Cartune, that let's you upload and download. You need a cable, that is the physical interface into the car (via the OBD-II port). And you need the access code and MTH file (either base or tuner).

The US MTH site is a little easier to understand....

bottom line: the cost is more expensive now than it was just 4 months ago...

standard file $170 plus cable $80 equals $250
tuner file $360 plus cable $80 equals $440

So are these guys just way off then? From January 06 MTH vs Unichip thread, https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ht=mth+unichip :

The $250 and $440 you stated above are closer to what I found. What are they talking about?

When I bought...

the price structure was different, and the exchange rate was different. I think mine cost like $67 ot $72 or so.

But what you're doing is like looking at old price catalogs, and then asking why the price on todays parts are different.

Sorry it's so confusing....

But that's business!

So the prices on the MTH website and the sticky here on NAM are out of date? I thought that thread was from January 06?

The old MTH used to be:
$60 for cartune
$100 for the cable
If i recall correctly, they used to do the custom file for free.

Currently, the price for the standard file and tuner file covers the cartune software plus the charge for the custom file.

Hope that helps.

Like I said before....

The US site is a bit more understandable...
https://www.mth-usa.com

Go to the product catalog, and click on Mini ECU Tuning...

Nearly correct. 60 Euro for Cartune and the key code - plus the cable. Files were for free.

Valid prices are on our website under MINI tuning.

That's probably why I was so confused with the "Holiday Pricing".
