Any 5spd Cooper (non S) owners with MTH?

I'm mostly interested in hearing if MTH made any difference to how the engine revs down between shifts. I've heard that MTH programming reduces "throttle hold", so the engine will rev down faster between gears. Also I'd like to hear what kind of mileage you're getting before and after MTH. If its at all possible I'd really like to hear a sound clip of the engine revving up to say, 5500rpm and down to idle again, just to see how long it takes compared to stock!

So if you have a Cooper (non S) 5spd manual with MTH I'd like hear your opinion on this. Oh btw, no need to tell me a lightened fly wheel will help, I know.

ps. Just drove a totally stock 2006 Mazda MX-5 6spd today, and amazed at how quickly that 2.0L engine revs up and down. Thought 2.0L engine would have more mass and thus rev slower, maybe it has lighter fly wheel too, I'm not sure.

I drive a MINI One (2005, 5spd manual) and 've also MTH tuning (Tuner file; 90hp -> 135hp) and a Pipercross induction kit (open-air-filter).
We 've an another One, its totally stock.

There a differences in driving. With MTH is faster and more torque. The maximum speed at stock is 181km/h and last week I drove 190km/h and it wasn't the maximum of my car. I will try it again!!!

At 3500 rpm, the car gives more torque, specially at 4000 rpm! You get the torque earlier.

Last week; an acquaintance (a brand new Cooper owner without any tuning) droves in my One. He was getting a very big smile!
His experience was also that my car gets earlier and more torque than his stock Cooper.

A Cooper/One hasn't a fly wheel, isn't it? Fly wheel is for a Cooper S. Explain please.

Pre and post MTH, my car ("regular" Cooper)snaps on and off the throttle... IMHO, there's less throttle lag than on any MCS I have driven... In other words, there's no lag...

My mileage didn't suffer, either. I get 27 around town or more if I drive normally, but unfortunately I find myself hitting the "GO" pedal just for fun quite often...

The majority of my customers are either ONE/Cooper owners, and they really do leave here with big grins on their faces. We also sponsor a MINI Cooper RALLY CAR here in the UK, that also runs the MTH Tuner file and runs with great results (compared to running a stock ECU Map)

Hey Luc,

Remember me? I sold you that remus exhaust last year. Yeah I decided to keep the darn thing, electrical problems were due to my freakin' sub so my car is fine now. I want to go with MTH as well. Are you going to go with the header cat combo? Or just the software upgrade?

You wouldn't happen to have a car jack/lift/ramp to install the header and cat would you? I was just wondering if you would be interest in an afternoon of tuning and beer in a few months. Right now I have the K&N Intake and the M7 Throttle Body. Hella fun!!! MTH Header & Cat is up next hehehe...

Take care,

Randy

Of course I remember you I'm only looking at the MTH software right now, but so far from what I'm seeing its not terribly convincing for the Cooper (non S). I do have 2 jacks and 4 stands plus a bunch of tools, but I have absolutely no clue how to install a header or a cat All I've done so far on cars are the springs/shocks/sway bars.

If you do get the header and cat let me know, we can look at the instructions and see how tough it is

Should have mentioned - my Cooper put down 110 hp and 108 ft/lbs at the wheels with the Promini intake, Borla catback, and regular MTH file... I figure I've gotten ~10 hp from those mods - figuring in driveline loss of 14%, 110 whp * 1.14 = 125.4 hp at the crank...

Well I did the intake and throttle body myself so from the looks of Randy Webb's guide, it doesn't look too tough. I'm getting springs in the spring and front and rear sway bar as well. Thanks man I'll give you a shout! When is the next meet? I haven't gone to one but it looks fun! I would love to try auto cross or a group driving school thingy.

You gotta let me ride in your car I wanna hear what the intake is like, thats next on my wish list when I have some spare $. Would be cool to get a before and after comparison of the lowering springs too!

ps. just read the header install, it doesn't sound bad at all, just need to get a 22mm impact socket it seems, I dont have one that big.
