You're right. I'm thinking of a completely different part. Good catch.

So does that mean that the first part of your initial statement still holds? I.e. that hardware is to blame? I've been searching quite profusely and others have said that the flat spot appeared after one of the recent software upgrades.

But interestingly enough in my case, it only became evident when I changed my throttle body. But then maybe the stock tb just hid a problem that I didn't notice.

Hm...

VT7 is that for the Cooper S?

I drive a One. My tuningspecialist has tuned my MINI last Summer (at the end). But how do I now I 've paid for "Tuner file" and not or the "Standard file"?

Has there been an update (VT7) yet? If there is a update, than I could take that. I've paid for it!

Here's my take....

I think the flat spot appears as two things happen.....

1) Larger TB, but this in itself isn't enough to do it.
2) More mods with more extreme tune.

The combo of the two will get it to rear it's ugly head. This isn't just MTH, but the MTH tune does "bring it out". I've seen other posts with other tune suppliers that have had the same symptoms.

I think that the issue comes down to when the bypass valve is opening/closing (mostly closing, as this is what happens when accelerating).

One easy test I haven't done yet is to wire tie the BP valve closed, and see if it goes away. If it does, that would mean that the ECU can't really interpret the transition between bypass open and closed.

Matt,

Have you tried the wire tie trick yet? curious to hear back on your comment. I've got the flat spot that I think is contributed from a large TB and it's very annouing. If MTH can't fix it then what can? Maybe you can do an article in MC2 about it.

I got the JCW ECU update and it fixed my flat spot.

Now I get to enjoy my 169HP at the wheels even more.

Dyno Day here.

For what its worth, I've noticed a pattern on my MCS. The VGS mod, the zip-tie trick, heavier spring, and anything else that closes the bypass valve any faster than stock, produces the flat-spot. The heavier spring and the VGS together, REALLY made things ugly.

Now, I have by BPV configured back to stock and the flat spot is only minutely noticeable.

Swapped out Helix's old Bosch 380cc "single stream" injectors for Helix's 380cc dual stream injectors... the goal being to get a correct fuel stream aimed at each intake valve, instead of a single stream striking the port divider.

While I've not noticed a peformance difference, the flat spot is finally gone in my MCS, and Blu is running smoother.
