To Standard or Tuner that is the question.

I can't make up my mind, (what little there is to make up) on which software package to get. I have installed the 15% pulley, CAI, Borla Sport exhaust and colder plugs. I am not planning on any more engine mod's.
So the question is, to those of you that have tired both versions, is it worth the extra cost. Would I really notice that much of a difference. I tend to be somewhat conservative about such things. I am not willing to sacrifice reliabilty for a little extra HP.

I'll let you know soon...

I just ordered the Tuner file. But search around, there are several threads on it already, and from what I remember, mostly posative responses.

MTH USA clearly states...
  • Standard Tuner MCS gives 187+ BHP
  • Tuner file MCS gives 197+ BHP
  • Tuner File MCS/JCW is gives227 +BHP

As to your reliability concern, you will have more trouble with reliability from your 15% pulley than you will from MTH Tuner. And a 15% pulley is one of the safest mods you can do to your car (over 100,000mi reliability on 15% pulleys so far). From personal experience, you will notice the difference.

Here's an analogy:

MTH Standard is to stock as MTH Tuner is to MTH Standard.

I have a question about this. Everytime your car goes in for service and you get a computer upgrade do you need to update the mth software to the new service software the car is? What happens after the 12 months

For the most part (barring some really radical software changes between versions), there is no charge. The 12 months is mainly in reference to added modifications.

Sweet, one more question, sorry to jack the thread, but...

Where you ever to figure out the dead band problem in that mid range on other peoples cars, or is it a null and void problem?

Depending on whats going on, I might have a fix as soon as next week. The problem is that it is only happening on US spec MINIs (none in Germany). We beleive this is due to ECU v39+ for the emissions recall.

It is happening on mine in Australia, and my software hasnt been touched since the car was new in 02 as far as i know anyway.

Its not a good feeling at all, hope something can be done soon. or it was 300Euro's down the drain.

John.
