We do the same for the CVT as we do for the "normal" MINIs.

Thanks, so MTH is a fuel and ignition "remap", but does it alter any of the CVT shifting point, red line, and rev limiter "programming"?

yah wait....my old MTH remap changed the shifting point. Did that change? That was the best part about MTH for CVT's in my opinion.

When I had my CVT remapped it make the shift points about 500rpm higher.

The standard file is version 6. But there are countless changes to each and every version because of all the different cars, mods etc. So if you have V5 and a friend of yours too, but he has different mods, than we talk two different files / versions.

Beyond 1000km

Good to hear you are pleased. When you did not reset the ECU, there is still a bit more to come after +/- 1000 km. Only then the ECU has fully adapted.

A trip to San Francisco & back cleared the 1000km mark. All's well However, I notice that if I keep the RPMs at a constant (5th gear, anywhere between 4000RPM & 5000RPM) the car will pull, then ease off repeatedly. Is this just the ECU working, or ? It feels like cruise control adjusting. This doesn't seem to occur (or at least be noticed) with the pedal on the floor going from 4000 to 6000+ Just curious.

What about MCSa?

Just wanted to know more about versions for MCSa.
I had mine back in July, and I'd like to know if there's any updates/changes I should be aware of for my car?

Interestingly, ever since I had the most recent dealer ECU map update, v42.1, the car has lost some of the "thrust" but returned a slightly better gas mileage. However, I miss the stronger pull from the engine, and would like to know more about any new versions from MTH!

The standard as well as the tuner file is available for all MINIs (except the ONE D - standard file only).

Can anyone provide an exact part number or description for the Sensolutions USB cable. I checked out the Sensolutions web site and came away more confused than amused...

MONO-USB (or MONO-SERIAL) cable. It's right on the front page.

You can also buy the Sensolutions cable from www.mth-usa.com under MINI > ECU Mods

Yeah, the info would have bitten me if it was a snake... Since this is a FAQ section of NAM and I didn't find any specifics, thought I'd fill in some blanks...

USB/OBDII Cable info:

www.sensolutions.com
Part# 24-EA-ISOPT-02-251 / $129.50

www.mth-usa.com
Part# CAB002 / $110.00

Thought I'd buy connectors and be Mr. Clever by making up my own cable, but after looking at the schematics purchasing a premade cable is the rational thing to do. Thru my myopic eyes, both cables look identical.

Do I need a retuned file if I get a light weight crank pulley (stock size)?

CAB002 is a Sensolutions MONO-USB cable. I might carry the MONO-COM if there was a demand for them. I actually thought about making the cable myself when I first got MTH, but the cost of materials, and time, was more than the premade cable.

That's not right - their prices are listed in CAD. It's $110 US.

I just tried to just ID my car to upload my mth files and got "Adapter Missing?"

Whats this mean? Also is there anyway to post what each of the error messages the Car tune software makes to make for easier question answering. Thank you

Having just gone through every error Cartune will produce (I was in the heat way too much today), here is a list of errors, and their causes.

Message: Unable to open the COM port. -> Fault at serial connection.
Cause: No serial devices on that port.
Solution: Chose the correct port!

Message: Echo is missing: Adapter available? -> startCommunication_Request do not send.
Cause: Cable is detected, but no response is given on the port.
Solution: You need to plug the cable into the OBD-2 port, make sure it is plugged in, and make sure the car is on.

Sometimes a message occurs saying "get an update from MTH". This can
have two reasons - either you are using an old version of CARTUNE
(newest is V16) or time/date on your laptop is not correct.

Something VERY important to remember when using a USB->OBD2 cable.

Go to Control Panels > System

Click on the Hardware > Device Manager

Scroll down to Ports. Click on it. Now you'll see something that says USB Serial Port (COMX). X being the port you need to set Cartune to. Also, if the COMX is over 5 (say COM6), then you have to double click on it, and go to advanced, and set the port to 5 or lower.

Installation Instructions.

MTH Installation instructions with MONO-USB Cable.

Things needed:

PC (Laptop preferred for ease of use)
MONO-USB
Cartune Software
MINI Cooper / MINI Cooper S

Download Instructions:

Turn the car on (but not started), and turn off all accessories.
Plug the Cable into the OBD-II port on the Car.
Plug the Cable into the appropriate port on the PC.
The PC will prompt for drivers for the Cable.
Point them to where you downloaded the drivers.
Once the cable is installed, go to Control Panels > System.
Click on Hardware then Device Manager.
Click on Ports.
There should be a USB Serial Device Port with a COM# next to it.
If the COM# is over COM5 (like COM6), then you have to
double click on the port.
Click on Properties, then Advanced.
Change the port to an unused COM# 1-5.
Click OK, OK, and Close the Device manager and System Control Panel
Now start CarTune.exe
Select the Port that your cable is set to.
Click the ID? button.
If you get an error here, make sure your car is on, the
cable in place with a GREEN LED, and the port is set correctly.
Click the Download button when the car ID's properly.
Once the ECU information is downloaded onto the PC, save the files.
Email the saved files (.mim and .org) to me.

Upload Instructions:

Save the .mth file I send you to your PC. (Make sure they are the correct size, they should be around 60k)
Turn the car on, but do not start, and turn off all accesories.
Plug the Cable into the OBD-II Port.
Plug the Cable into the PC.
Start Cartune.
Click the ID button.
Load the .mth file from your PC.
Enter your Keycode in the Blue Box. (You'll receive this in your email)
Click the upload button.
Once the ECU information has been uploaded to your car, turn your car
off, and you're done.

Tips:

Close all applications other than Cartune when uploading and downloading.
Turn off Wireless networking.
Make sure you have at least 30 minutes of battery power.
