Ok...just got off the phone with the Speedway Casino (it's a Ramada inn for anyone who cares) which is the closest large hotel to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Their group rate for the Feb weekend is good for 10 rooms and up @ $45 plus taxes per night per room. If we are doing stuff at the LVMS, this makes a lot of sense. If events are happeing at Pahrump, it makes much less sense as it adds about 20 mins to the trip to the track.
Waiting to hear back from The Cannery (brand new hotel/casino in the same part of town as the Speedway) regarding room rates. At least tomorrow before I hear anything from them.

Agro, thanks for checking into hotels and prices. You are the man! Speedway Casino sounds like fun. I'm doing a search for it on Yahoo to see if it looks good from a logistical standpoint.

Whoa! You guys have been busy!

It sounds like a weekend of no sleep!

See, Vegas is the perfect location for us to have a Poker Rally.... Or Some sort of Sin Event.

I want to keep an eye on all angles and possibilities for a weekend like this...

Time Restraints and Human Conditions may not allow for certain things, but we'll try to cram as much as we can into it!

There's some who doubt anyone will drive a long way to come to Vegas. So who's planning on attending that will be making the longest trek to get to Las Vegas? Post here your anticipated miles to motor to get to Las Vegas.

The SCCA does a lot of autocrossing at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The contact there to "rent" the track is Craig Cochran, 800-644-4444. The other cool thing about LVMS is that the Derek Daly Driving Academy is there. They use
BMW Z 3's for high performance driving instruction. Their number is 702-643-2126,
maybe you could "piggyback" on their track time. LVMS is a 15 minute drive north of the strip. Mt. Charleston is just north of Vegas and it is a nice drive as is Red Rock Canyon.

Don't worry evrybody. This is still being planned out. Once the motel is confirmed, then I'll post the specifics for everyone to enjoy. I've got some really good news, but I won't say what it is until it's time to do so.

Until then, happy motoring!

So I could marry some chick I met 5 minutes ago, get pissed drunk, or rob a bank and no one would ever know back home? VIVA LAS VEGAS!

Except for robbing a bank, yes. The cops here frown on that. Besides, there's much more money in the casinos here than the banks. Rob a casino. you only have to deal with their security...um...maybe a bank would be easier after all.

OK, I guess I can let a little part of the planning out.

The weekend I shooting for is Feb 6-8. Being Friday thru Sunday. I'm planning on staying Sunday night. and returning to work on a Tuesday. So that was I have a 4 day weekend.

You now have just over 5 months to start saving up the $$, and beggin' for time off from work, for this MINI Vacation in Vegas. Dare I say, 1st Annual MINI Vacation in Vegas?

So more to come on the motel. All I'm going to say is it's going to be on the strip and very reasonably priced. By no means will you be limited to staying where I find a group rate. You can certainly stay anywhere you want. There'll be plenty of activities for any and all involved!

Plus I have another announcment regarding this trip. Stay tuned!

Happy Motoring!
Dominic

Just so everyone knows, the hotels here consider February to be "peak season", so rates are kinda high around then. As an example, I talked to the Palms, their rate for that weekend is $379 per night, and they "don't do group rates on weekends".
On a more positive note, if people want to save some money from the group rates by staying off the Strip, I can point you at cheaper places. The savings are not going to be huge though.

I agree, if the hotel rates are going to break your budget, there are decent places like the Hacienda Hotel-Casino out by Hoover Dam that usually have $59 weekend rates in Feb. Its only about a half hour drive to the Strip. There are others even closer so plan to come, enjoy the many great drives like Valley of the Fire, Lake Mead, and Red Rock Canyon in the area.

$59 is good, but if you really want to, you can get cheaper than that in Vegas. You might not want to though.
However, Dominic, MightyMiniz and I have been working on this for a while now, and $59 is not that large a saving over the on-Strip rate we managed to find. Don't rush into anything until announcements are made, but save your money for the tables.

Hey Maybe Lunch on Oct 22nd?

Myself, a cinematographer, and a Vendor/Advertiser here, will have started on our first leg of the tour from LA.

We'll solidify that lunch date soon!

and No one can deny Sin City especially in a Mini!

Sounds fine to me. Dominic, the 3rd and 4th weekends of this month are no good for me, but otherwise I'm pretty open.
