MITM 2011 Ride Announcements and Discussion
Look here for information on the planned Motoring Adventures for MITM 2011 in Winter Park.
When we develop our ride list we will post it here over the next few months.
We encourage comments from folks who have attended and are planning to attend MINIs in the Mountains.
Do you have a favorite drive you would like to suggest for MITM 2011?
We are planning to have three planned rides per day. Two of the rides will be lead by a Ride Leader.
The Midnight on MT. Evans ride will be a Saturday night ride as it is traditional for MITM. Current plan is to also offer a MT. Evans ride on Saturday morning for those who wish to see MT. Evans in the glorious Colorado sunlight.
All of our rides are going to be driven with gusto at lazy to moderate speeds at the legal limits.
Thank you,
Don Suiter

I/We are looking for folks who want to Sponsor a scheduled ride or even two.
Send that email and we can exchange some ideas. Would you want to do one of the major rides or the shorter adventures?
Thanks for asking. Anyone else who wants to Sponsor, just give me a shout. We can work out the details.

2011 MITM Rides
Two pictures for you all to contemplate and give me or Jamie (lil_valentino) feedback.
These are going to be the lead rides by day.
We really need someone to volunteer to do the Western Dragon/MT Evans Drive during the day on Thursday.
Send me or lil-valentino and PM or email.
This image is all the rides we have mapped for MITM 2011, some are new, some old and all are fun.
We took Gunella Pass Ride off the list, we can provide you a map for that ride, but it has a lot of DIRT (no-dirt unless your really into washing your MINI)
All rides image:
Lots of checking have gone into the rides, some roads and conditions will change.
See the MinisInTheMountains website for updates hopefully this weekend going forward.

OK, the planned ride Western Dragon/With Mt. Evan will start at 12 NOON on Thursday.
EDIT: Mr. Chuck is on top of it, use his link to the official MITM website for the final word.
Will try to update pictures and the MITM website before the end of the weekend.
Enjoy, this one will be a hoot, look for some left over snow.

Garmin GPX Files Now Available for MITM 2011 Group Rides
Now, thanks to the extremely gifted and talented Mr. T. Shackelford, our website holds for your use all the MITM 2011 group rides saved in a Garmin GPS file that can be uploaded to your navigation device. Involving some sort of witchcraft or voodoo this file will give you all the routes, turn-by turn, so you can't get lost. I say you here because even with such space-age technology I could get lost.
Anyway visit the MITM 2011 Scheduled Group Rides tab under Schedule on our website at: http://minisinthemountains.com/schedule/grouprides and scroll to the bottom for this gift to MINIkind. Thanks Tim!

Still in Norway
I have been watching the MITM activity from the road. Sure wish I could bring back some of the Norway mountain roads so we could play on them during MITM.
I will be back in time to ride on Thursday and get some tweeks done on Scooter on Wed. afternoon.
Can't wait, if you have ride questions, contact Jamie, Lil'Valentino, I only get on NAM off and on while I browse around Norway.
Always and adventure, no matter what roads you travel. Check out the MITM guide online and save a copy, Chuck did a great job. Also, thanks Tim for the great additions. Nice.

Be sure to download, print and read your Owner Manual (yes, we're so demanding). All questions are answered within.
Channel 7 sub 21 (page 9 and page 40 http://minisinthemountains.com/manual)

Sorry folks, but I have READ the excellent owners manual form front to back...the info in the manual IS what sparked the question... page 9, item 11: "2-wat Radio (we use channel 7 sub 21 for all ride communications" and the same channnel 21 sub 7 on page 40...
This does not tell me what kind of radio you are using:..cb, vhf, uhf, frs, gmrs...
I am a firefighter/paramedic by trade , using many types of 2 way radios over the past 40 some odd years and have never heard of channel 21 sub 7. Seems like a simple question that others might have as well?
Thank You...looking forward to a stellar event
Mike

Not sure where you see the channel 21 sub 7 but if you do see that divide the first by 3 then multiply the second by 3. Also not sure what frs or gmrs are unless they are abbreviations for French and grams, but I do watch vhf on cable all the time (On Hit Wonders = great show).
All I can tell you is I bought my radio at Best Buy and it is a Motorola and yellow. Not sure the yellow has any bearing but if it had come in red I would have gotten that one since red is faster. I don't think it is CB though as I never hear any truckers on it unless some of the MINI owners also drive truck but that would be immaterial to this discussion.
No help at all I'm afraid Mike but you can borrow one of mine at MITM since I probably will not have time to do any rides and I have two - they came as a set.

Look me up Mike and you can use all the juice out of mine - no charge (that's a pun). Anyway I will have two and would be more than satisfied if they were in use rather than sitting on the desk. They prefer the open road to just sitting so you could make their day - please look me up.
Again, mine are yellow - do we have to focus on labels? Isn't it enough just to be a radio these days or do we all have to over-categorize everything? Look, the US is going to default on our debt and we're sitting here worrying about FRS vs. GRMS - really?

Radios @ Best Buy or Rei or a good camping store, midlands or motorola, get a radio that has a range greater than 5 miles, I believe Frs/gmrs 20/22 with sub-channels should be good.
Found the radio shack radios do not work well, in the mountains range is spotty anyway, so try to keep a visual on other MINIs.
