My opinion? Meh. It’s basically a Cooper S with **** carpets and wood trim. Even though the package is quite rare, there isn’t much that’s very special about it. Plus, it’s an automatic
Mechanically, it’s a Cooper S/auto, but that interior is bespoke and very special. Nearly every surface was changed. Have you seen one in person?
The original MSRP was nuts, but a used one should level that out.
Yes, looking for me. I haven't looked for a JCW in over 18 mo, so Im starting to get a feel for prices again.. It seems they're higher than last search for clean examples. I wont tie up this thread, but $3500 seems fair for the mileage, considering it probably needs another $2k in maintenance to get the steering tight, new clutch, etc.. I hate dealerships in general, besides being pure evil they often lack maintenance records and I assume all vehicles were purchased at auction with heavy damage or theft history - Im cynical. These are getting harder to find, however, so PP isn't always an option.
Hey, Burley is back in the game?! Welcome back. I think I was "out" last we chatted and you had picked up a super clean, low mileage '04 JCW somewhere in the Southeast? Do you still have it?
Best of luck in your hunt. You always seem to find the good ones!

Just taking an 18 mo break. I was offered $14k for the JCW (bought for $8k), so I couldn't pass it up. Picked up a BMW i3, which is very Mini-like, but not the same. Will keep the i3, but if I find the right Cooper might keep it as a third toy. I never sold my Bentley Manual - knew I'd be back.

$14K for the '04 JCW? Wow, you have to take that and run. Even today with the rising prices, that's solid. Someone you knew, or a random stranger offer?
I've got an '05 JCW Hyper Blue with full aero kit and other nice upgrades right now, low-ish mileage and incredibly clean and tight. Fun to enjoy the R53 again, while watching the value hold/rise.
I listed the car on eBay just to see what it would get, and someone hit the "Buy it Now" button at $14k within a few days. It was a nice older guy who will baby and garage it. He also got a second set of wheels (R112) in addition to S-Lites with very new rubber.
The hunt is the fun part, I dont mind this one bit.

I saw your car come up and was not surprised it sold so quickly as recent 1st gen prices with low miles have been going up. BaT had a 22k mile 04 Cooper S sell for $15k a few weeks ago.
When listing cars on Marketplace, I'm pretty sure it just defaults to "Automatic" in the listing. I saw a ton of manual cars listed as Automatic in the header.

On to hunting!
Or the 19k mile BRG JCW $19k before it even made it to BAT, preview was listed on FB. Canadian though. Might have done more on BAT. Never thought much of BRG until I saw that one...metallic, friggin beautiful.

OK, I was surprised too...and they didn't show interior pictures. Hope that's incorrect.

Always gotta check for interior pics, most manuals I see there are listed as automatic. Always get suspicious if there are no engine or interior pics. And usually check the profile to see if there are pics or posts about the car. FB can be a sketchy place to buy a car privately. Due diligence.
2006 JCW (no Aero... maybe dealer installed JCW mill on S model)
$6500 N. Cal
100K miles
Needs some TLC, a 3-day "wheels/fenders/arches-off" and seats removed detail.... and some donor parts to make it a really nice car again.
Probably none of that dreaded snow-belt "NaCl-Cancer" ...looking around at the nuts/bolts in the engine compartment... none of that east coast rust.
Claimed new clutch (HUGE plus if true and done well with right parts)
IMO... some of the Nicest wheels every made by MINI.

Pepper White with R98s always looks good. Not a particularly great price for what it needs. And I'm always leery of "A/C just needs a charge/refresh." If it's that simple, do it before you put the car on the market.
Repectfully, I'd disagree on on the price and what it needs... I've seen a lot of people paying more for Midwest/East car with rust all over the place....Even if it had half the miles.
Plus... that HOW you transform a $6k car into a $14 K car !
NO rust is HUGE... and, admittedly... many people have never had their MINI in the snow or rain in the rust-belt.
HUGE
to me. You cant unbolt it and change it out.
A/C system on these cars is pretty straight forward if you know how to swing a wrench... I've done completes... but being a CA car... prob compressor or condenser... heck...could be just o-rings and evac/charge... Not a biggie for me in any case... Second hand guaranteed used parts abound as do reasonably priced easy to replace condensers and lines.
Some elbow grease... and I'd bet it could look pretty darn close to this under the hood !
Heck... I may be talking myself into this one !!!
The things it needs are minor for any MINI enthusiast ... and ALL but the priceyest R53's need to have the hood/scoop/bumper re-painted and PPF'd to be 'nice'.
No JCW Aero kit on this one... but for me... that would all come off and be sold to one of the hungry JCW-hunters out there anyway. .
They just seem like an afterthought to me from Frank Stephenson's original vision of a new MINI... for me, IMO, close but not all the way to the 'vader kit' above. More rare 'bits' ... yes... but not part of the original design for a 'purist' ... more of something like factory 'bolt ons' from Gemballa to ME. After looking at the evolution of these cars... and MINI's desire to keep the profitable part of the dealerships busy, the service department... all of the bolt on MINI factory accessories just make sense.
In 1999....
Let’s just think about that for a moment. BMW, a German company, chose and American to recreate one of the biggest British icons of the last hundred years. And they flipping nailed it.
The later models, R56-JCW... was more of an integrated design process... though that silly faux rear brake duct is kinda cheezy to me.
To many collectors, will a JCW Aero kit be desirable from a resale value view...probably. Good discussion for another day/place (It has probably been covered on these very forums)
