You may be right...but remember, the value of your car is not solely determined by the options that it has...it is actually determined by what people are willing to pay. You need to set your price using actual sale prices for comparable '04 JCWs that have been sold, not based on their asking price.

IMHO, for an '04 JCW with 32k, the low to mid $20k range might be prevalent in most regions of NA. An '05 JCW (with its preferred gearing advantage) for $22k seems like a terrific deal.

M2C,

Theo

P.S. Spell checkers are our friends.

But ok...as an owner of an '04 JCW 210 and a week-long driver of an '05 JCW, it is my opinion that the gearing change in the '05 has benefitted the performance of the JCW in 1st and 2nd gear. IMHO, this also holds true for the MCS.

In fact, I have not heard or read of any negative reports about the new gearing in the '05/'06s that have compelled the owner to long for an '04 gearbox. On the contrary, I have wished to have the new gearing in my '04.

I know making broad statements isn't good form, but in this case there seems to be widespread agreement on the merits of the '05-onward gearbox.

Thanks. Generalizations are definitely not socially productive, but they are easy. You're absolutely right that there is widespread agreement that the new ratios are "better." But there is less widespread agreement that adding more torque and less top end to 1st and 2nd, while widening the gap between 2nd and 3rd, is not an improvement, but a compromise made to pacify American drivers looking for more low-end, off-the-line torque. I'm not really a first gear kind of guy, and love my early, close-ratio box. Mated to a JCW engine, it's just about perfect, imho.

I am happy that I started this thread. I am getting much needed feedback. And my horrible spelling is getting a lot of responses. But, the car is great and I would like to get possible offers.

Plus with the new ratios higher RPMs are required to maintain highway cruising speed in 6th gear ... meaning poorer mileage

Sorry...we've done a good job of hijacking!

I think we are trying to help you a little here by trying to bring your expectations in line with the market. At a more reasonable asking price, you may indeed get some offers.

A quick few minutes on ebay shows 2 comparable '04 MCS JCWs have sold within the last several months. All were well-equipped (but no nav; not a real "must have" for most) and have low-30s for mileage. The highest sale price of the two was $23,500 with the other going for $22,100.

There is also a fully-loaded '04 JCW from Nevada that is currently for sale on ebay. It has 17,500 miles on it and the owner is asking $24,500...but...there are no bids on it yet and the auction ends Tuesday.

Hope this helps,

Theo

Yeah, i think mine has a few more things then the one on ebay. But i do have more miles. but 24500 sounds pretty low for the low miles. He should get some hits for that soon. Also, I just threw a price out there. I am not going to low ball it from the start. If i got some decent offers, I would be open to negotiations. Email me at dbkidd@aol.com

My 04 mini cooper S is still for sale, with all three option packages with the JCW packages and modifications for $24000. It is on this website, please check it out, it is all black with black motegi wheels. I think the price is very reasonable. Please feel free to message me.

ah, man. that stinks. You'd think with 6 gears they could jsut make gear 6 a low RPM highway cruise gas saver @ 2300 RPM or something

Great, thanks for the feedback. Although I had not yet formed any kind of opinion of you, I now have some data. I think this is what they call an "unsolicited personal attack," right?
