Body Shop Recommendations

Well as much as it pains me to create this thread, it must be done. My MINI got smashed up pretty good this evening by a driver not paying attention. Everyone made it out alright, but my 03 Cooper S is going to need some work. I know it will need a new hood, headlight, hood scoop, grill, radiator, radiator shroud, and hopefully not too much more.

I'm looking for recommendations on any body shops that have worked on their fair share of MINI's. Does Schomp have a shop of their own? I'm in south Denver but will tow it anywhere in the metro area to get fixed.

Please let me know of any suggestions, even shops to avoid.

Thanks
Mike

When my clubman got ran into by our neighbor I went to Rallye Coachworks - Tony did a fantastic job getting it back looking new. I was fairly upset because at the time it only had 5,000 miles on it and they did a great job repairing it so I can't ever tell it was hit.

Ditto on Tony (Rallye Coach Works), also ask who Rick G (pauhana) and Kristan Y (dittin) took their MINIs to for paint and repair, I believe it is a shop Schomp recommends, just slips my mind at the moment.

Look back a couple of months in the MINI5280 area, I think you will see a posting or two about local body shops and repair results.

I took Volly to Auto Image when someone backed into Volly's face. Now the area looks good as new. They did a great job.

Well we have entered the need for a body shop too. While in South Dakota a Dodge truck tried to back over our countryman. Apparently the bright yellow color did not provide enough visibility.

Anyway we have a good size dent between the gas filler and read tail light. Need a good body shop recommendation. Prefer Colorado Springs but Denver will work

I took my MINI to "Chip Magic Auto Body & Custom Paint" just a few blocks north of Schomp.

They did a lot of paint repair and replaced, chrome grill, chrome headlight rings, polished the headlights and replaced 3M clear bra with a "spray on clear bra" (no visible seams)...and replaced my carbon fiber vinyl stripes.

I didn't have body damage for them to repair but they do that kind of body work, also. I was very satisfied with their work.

Here is their website: http://www.chipmagic.biz/

I called probably a dozen shops today and put each through a series of questions. After talking to each shop, I've decided to go with Applewood out in Lakewood/Golden. It's quite far from where I live in Centennial, but they absolutely have the right idea.

It seems most shops out there seek to get the most money from insurance and then spend the least amount on the repairs.

Fike, what questions were you asking them. What should I look out for?

Ray,

I have a family member that did high end body work for over 40 years, and he provided me with a list of things to ask. I'll dig it out when I get home and send a copy over.

After Bimmerhaus recommended them, SVE Autobody in Broomfield has done right by us twice now. Once in 2012 when someone vandalized my '97 M3 (which is when they were recommended to me), and once again when someone tried to drive over Audrey's Yaris at a red light. They'll do an on the spot estimate for you, and with the Yaris, Butch asked if we wanted him to do the estimate the way he'd do it, or the way the claims inspector from the other lady's insurance would probably do it. We asked him to estimate it "the right way". He did, and then he went over the estimate line by line, pointing out where the other inspector would substitute in a 3rd party aftermarket replacement, when the refurbished Toyota OEM part he would recommend would probably only be $30-40 more, etc.

They're just off 36 at 287/Wadsworth.

The only caveat that I'd have is that they're SO good that every customer recommends them to everyone they know, so they've got about a 6 week waiting list before they'll be able to get you in.

Body Shop

Checkout my photos in my gallery. I JUST got my Mini fixed up. The guy did an awesome job and you will not believe the price I paid to have 6 dents repaired, painted, painted the hood, and waxed/buffed the whole car. He also painted my scoop for me. The guy is in Pueblo (I'm in the Springs) and he had my car for 4 days. PM me and I'll tell you what I paid. Let's just say that it wasn't even a quarter of the other 10 estimates I got!
