5280 Club Meeting January 14 - Saturday
5280 Club Meeting January 14 - Saturday
After much, well something.
First Club meeting of January 2012 will be on Saturday, January 14.
Start Time: 1:30 Paul's Coffee & Tea in Louisville, Colorado
Since parking is tight, we might want to park in the Albertson's parking lot just across the road east of Paul's @ 956 W. Cherry St, Louisville, CO.
PAUL's
Please use this link for signup, so we can get a count. CAL LINK...
Get a coffee, tea, soda, short 30 min. meeting then leave for a drive at 2:15PM
This one I am calling the Coffee, drive, Coffee Meeting or some such.
Route will be short 1.5hrs or less and hopefully dry, I will post a route map link later, Plan on being able to head towards home around 3:30 or so. Route will take us West and South into the Mountains.
Try this link for the drive, current suggestion, suggestion changes below: http://g.co/maps/ak5h4
Long URL, I think this one might be more accurate, shows driving on Indiana headed South. LINK LINK
On a Tentative basis, next Meeting in February will start in Castle Rock, so be aware!

See the link in first post for a possible drive Coffee to Coffee, comments?
If you have something better or additions, post in the thread. Otherwise, we will enjoy asis.

Looks as good as any other route near the area. I was thinking about looping in the opposite direction to finish with lunch at Wondervu like we did last year, but the timing isn't really right and it would be easier on the southern club members to finish in Golden. I think you have it best, considering.
Bump, Good thoughts, folks who want to go back North could go up Golden State Park then over to WonderVu, perhaps an early dinner, then home to rest or out to party.

Please sign up on the calendar. Note the map link is does not start at Paul's. Google map picked a spot in Louisville a mile or so east of Pauls.

For those interested this Saturday is Blue Grass Jam Saturday, from 1pm-5pm, so if you not driving with us and want to hang around, they get some good musicians.

How do you join? I saw the website for 5280 and saw I could complete an application and snail mail it with payment. But didn't see a application for paying with paypal.
On another note. Can anyone come to the this meeting? Not a member yet but thinking about it.
Not sure about the drive part though. Still in my break-in period. Does the route have steep hills that might cause my car to go over 4500 rpm's for long periods? How fast do you guys drive the routes? Not opposed to driving a little fast but the break-in thing again. Thanks.

Ditto to what Jeremy said.
Welcome Tank251, your welcome to ride with us as a non-member, but remember members get the newsletter and benefits.
As for the break-in, do not worry about it, a good mountain drive will break in the MINI just fine, you will not even get close to stressing the high rev. point and it will not hurt if you do.
My 07 managed a few bursts to 90+ on the drive home back in 07. My break-in was per the book, never exceeded the so-called high rev. limit. MINIs are fast even below 4500 rpm.
Vary your shift points, don't lug the engine, don't maintain a constant speed like 65 for 25 miles on an interstate, which leads me to a nice drive in the mountains.

Good Orange Morning.
A note to all who have signed up for Saturday's motoring and meeting.
If you have a radio for car to car communications, bring it, change or charge your batteries.
I use a MIDLAND GXT760 model, I purchased at the local sporting goods store, I have seen these radios at REI.
We use Channel 7 Sub-Channel 21
Any good radio with range greater than 10 miles is good, mountain coverage is spotty at best.
I will share my cell phone number at the meeting so folks can call me as needed during the ride. I am hands-free in the MINI.

Any late readers, I updated the map links, if your going to look and print, use the long link that shows us heading South on Indiana.
Don
I will have printed copies at the drive.

According to the menu http://paulscoffeeandtea.com/ it's "Cinnamon Roll Saturday" at Paul's Coffee!
Great group, we did not lose anyone on the drive, no ice and no windshield broken, it was a good one, less than 2 hours road time with a couple of stops.
Thanks to everyone, I will post up a link to pictures later.

Good to meet you Ted and all the new folks, come back for some more, two rides being planned for February.
Ray, perhaps next time, we will be down your way!

Nice pictures, good picture from the rocks and I really like that shot at the tracks, almost a dead stop and I am not that low.
Will have to capture a few for the Feb. newsletter article I am going to jot, ok with you folks?

For those that missed it, here is a real short video of the club ride, it is using aLapRecorder HD running on my Droid Bionic smart phone mounted to the windshield, and was put together with RaceRender2 to show the route that GPS tracked, the time, the speed and the last one is a G meter, enjoy!
