Need a TUNE?
Need a TUNE?
Anybody up for a spring tune party?
I am working with a well known tuner, to get him out to the Denver area for a tune party this spring. Everything is still up in the air as far as the when and where, so if you have any suggestions let them be heard.
I was thinking sometime in May would be our best bet on a timeframe. As far as dyno shops, we have MAC down in parker, or Boost Creep outside of Longmont (Right off of I-25). I know the club has used MAC before, but Boost Creep is a little newer of a facility, and I'm sure Harvey would cut a good rate on renting his dyno for the day.
The tuner coming out of SoCAL also wants to display, and showcase one of his new products at the event. So we will need someone with an R53/R52/or R50 that would be willing to let the tuner demonstrate the new ViPEC standalone ECU on their car. (I would volenteer but, I still wont have an engine.)
We need to start a list of people intrested in getting their car tuned (you dont need to commit to it at this time) to see how manny people we will be looking at. In the past the tuner has wanted a minimum of 20 cars, to make the trip profitable.
So if you are interested let me know. I will also need to know if you have an R50/R53/R56 the year of the car, and if you would be willing to let the tuner use your car for the demonstration. Also If you have any suggestions on dates or shops, post them up. As always questions are welcome, and encouraged.
***I can NOT name the tuner on this forum, or the thread will be deleted. AGAIN!***

I will start the list off with you than Bryan. IIRC yours is a 2003 manual?
Threar, I still haven't heard back from *** on your R60 yet. It would deffenitly be nice to have a Contryman or two in the lineup though.

This is a nice interesting overlap, Bahman and I were tossing around getting a baseline dyno session going.
I was looking at MAC, but if interest is up North and you can get 20, it would be fine. Getting 20 is pretty ambitious, experience says 10-12 real.
Also, to my current knowledge the N18 engine in the 11, 12, R56/55/58 and the R60 has not been cracked. See the AP thread and other commentary, except an out of car CPU tune, but I have not seen anything real there either, despite what people are posting.
Now if you have an 11/12 anything JCW with the N14 beefy, your golden.
We were looking at a Dyno gathering at MAC in March versus April/May due to other activities MOTD, MOB, etc....
You might want to PM Bahman, and see if he wants to help you gather interest, PM me too.

I'm totally interested in a Dyno session (haven't been able to find an excuse to get the second dyno run after my mods on my R60). If either session can be lined up, I'm in. If a tune can happen as well, even more of a bonus.
Didn't know you where already thinking up a dyno day Don. I will be sending you a PM later on.
Threar, you might be in luck with getting a tune on your CM. I got an email back from the man, and he can flash the N18's, BUT it might bring up some waranty isues. Problem is he needs to take the ECU apart, and flash the tune straight into the EPROM of the computer. If you ever have any isues with the car, and the dealer sees that the ECU has been opened up, they could deny a waranty claim.
It is doable though. I am going to put you on the list as a dyno only for now, unless you decide to accept the risks involved with getting your CM tuned.

Not any problem, put me on your list for a baseline dyno for my R56. Where-ever it happens will be fun.
Not going to be flashing via eprom pgm on our R60, when AP or someone else gets it doable, then we shall see.
Since MINI is not releasing a JCW engine tune for the R60, makes me think I don't want to mess with the N18 engine, yet.

Yeah, I'll likely be squeemish at cracking open my ECU (though looking at the car so far, I wonder how many warranty violations I'm already under).
Tune or not, I'm happy to stay on the list for the Dyno.

Youre on the list, get some power in that MC40! It looks beautiful.
Check this link for pics and info on my car. I noticed that quite a few of the pics are now missing!

Depending on the date/time/price, I might be interested.
I've got a 2003 Cooper S. The last owner installed a 17% pulley and a plugs/wire kit from Mini Mania.
Question, though - my last car was a WRX and although I never got around to tuning it I read quite a bit about it, and became familiar with some of the local tuners/facilities by name.
Turbocharged is different than supercharged, though, so my question becomes - what kind of power gains is a custom tune likely to be able to safely make in my R53?
Also, I know Cobb makes an Access Port for the turbo charged MINIs, but is there a similar product for the supercharged ones that would let me store and change maps (sort of) on the fly so I could get tuned for 91 octane and ethanol (if that's even appropriate for MINIs, I dunno)?
I guess that overall, I'm looking for bang for the buck here - if it's likely to give me a much better driving experience for a reasonable price, sure. If it's likely to give me minimal power increases, then I'll stick with what she's doing now.
