Unless I'm working, I'll try and make it this year. I don't think I'll be wearing Moose hats or such; but I'll come if I can.

Lets see what happens!

They might be able to open the road early this year, considering all the nice weather lately...maybe late March?

It's a

BUFFALO Hat.

And Shelley's is a BEAR Hat.

The Clear Creek Ranger Station in Idaho Springs has a Wildlife Identification course you might be interested in.

May 23rd, so far

As of today, the Mt Evans website is projecting the opening date as May 23rd. Maybe they'll open is earlier. We'll have to call in April...

Sorry to say it Rick, but the latest posting on Mt. Evans site offers these less than encouraging words regarding opening day.

In prior years, favorable weather had permit an earlier open day. Now a new agreement between CDOT and the Forest Service precludes any chance of it opening sooner. MAY 22, 2009 IS THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE OPENING DATE FOR 2009!

You can find a wide variety of animal hat

at the Clear Creek Ranger Station at I-70 and CO103 as we come down off Mt. Evans. We will stop before lunch so you can score one.

Nice to have you, Teresa

I will be bringing Shelley.

In any case, a reminder to attendees that (see post #1) we MOVED the meetup location this year to the McDonalds, at the Evergreen exit to I-70. Arrive by 7, we take off at 7:30 and should get to Mt Evans right at 8. If we leave without you, come on up.

Take Evergreen Parkway west to Bergen Park, then right on The Dragon (Squaw Pass Rd). No turns after that until you reach Mt. Evans.

See you then. There will be a group picture taken for your FACEBOOK accounts so you can make your Iowa friends jealous. Then, we will use that for promo of MITM4.

I spoke with the Clear Creek Ranger District today

and they have NO REASON to believe Mt. Evans Rd. will not be open all the way to the top on Friday. They anticipate good warm plowing weather and that is great.

Friday night is another story....they expect a storm and snow so they suggest no camping up there just yet....
