Announces it's first ever event, and you are invited:

• May 15, 16 and 17 2009
• "Meetup at Mt. Rushmore"
• Hosted by a diverse group of MINI friends (all former Dragon attendees)
• Anyone is welcome
• Groups will be attending from Markel MINI in Omaha (Coopers of Omaha and Rural Nebraska aka C.O.R.N.) and Baron MINI in KC (KCMiniacs) and StL MINI (MINIs of St. Louis) and Ralph Schomp MINI (MINI5280)
• Colorado MINIs will drive thru Alliance, NE (Carhenge) for pictures then meetup with the others in Rapid City, SD.

In case you are doing nothing today at 2pm (Sunday 11/2) On the Travel channel there is a show called "Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills"

Just tossing this into the ring ...
We spent a night in the Hill City Comfort Inn this summer. It was nice and at $90/night for 3 Queen beds - one of the cheaper spots.

I thought I was going to get to the Black Hills this fall but did not make it so I am going to try and make a run up there on January 16th for my birthday. Will see what the lay of the land is up there. Anything special you guys want me to look into?

Most of the hotels will be closed for the season, but there is a hot springs south of Mt. Rushmore that may be worth looking at.

After our first meet of the year on Jan 17th I'll have a better idea, but I believe we have at least three MINIs committed to the event with the potential for additions. We'll direct all to enroll via the link on your HPM calendar post when their commitment is firm.

Is your HPM graphic exclusive to MINI5280 or have your companion clubs adopted it too?

I like it a lot

 

I had heard a rumour about this event last year from a friend in the Chicago club and suspect that there may be a contingent from the SotaMINIs interested in joining the fun. Certainly Holly (Alice's Driver) and I are very interested!

 

So did this jaunt happened last year.....any pictures?

 

No. This is the first year, but it's been almost a year in the making. If you know a bit about the organizing clubs, you realize that they're an active, diverse group of MINI enthusiasts that have a history of large and small get-togethers in various locations. It will be fun. Don't miss it!

 

and will never happen again. As Rick noted, this event is organized by a diverse group of Motoring Friends from StL, KC, Omaha, Denver, Eastern Iowa, OKC and beyond. This is not a 'Dragon' type event and there will be nothing organized for you or any attendee in particular. Rather, we are organizing the destination, the daily rides, and no more.

But you and anyone can join in. You just make your own arrangements (will will provide details to do so) and just show up. No commitments, no fees, no charges, no big slow cold dinners. Just Motoring.

And next year, the location will change as a different 'club' will organize and make that decision.
