dyno a MINI in Denver area

Since the economy is in the dumpers, I need a thought or two to cheer me up, so spending a little $$ on a dyno baseline came to mind.

Who in or around Denver has a proper dyno that gives excellent/accurate numbers on the R56?

Any shops that really stand out and know MINIs or Euro cars well enough to interpret the runs on a dyno?

I'm looking to get a baseline before I do any more mods on my MCSa.

Comments, recommendations, any cost per run figures would be welcome.

Thanks,
Don

I talked with the folks at SCR Performance about this very subject during their last open house. While they don't have a dyno they do have a source for testing. It was even discussed that perhaps we as a club could work a deal with the company to set-up a dyno-day.
If there is interest in this I can start working it.

I had also talked with Intercoolest a while back to consider Dyno and custom tuning from Jan (whose company name I can't recall at the moment).

If we get enough folks together and committed to the session (whatever we do) then I'm sure things will work out. I could be interested depending on what is happening.

MAC autosport is a great spot. They do mostly japanese cars but they have done tuning on TT Vipers, a race team used their dyno when they were here for the grand prix when it was around, name a car and they probably have seen it roll across their dyno. They did some tuning on some minis a while back when a local guy was building a laminova intercooler. I would trust them with my car. I dont have their site right now but when I get home I will look it up for you.

Bump for more info.

A club day for at least 2 dyno runs per car would be a great idea.

rocky, thank for the comments on Mac, I will have to look into what they offer.

As the weather gets cooler a dyno day would be good as our MINIs make good power when it is cool.

Any more thoughts?

Jacob, you think Jan would come to Denver for the R53 guys? That would be a great day for the folks who wanted to pull some more HP.

MAC is here in Parker, they are great. I have attended many an Audi test and tune day there, a bunch of the S4 stage 3 guys have run there since they offer an all wheel drive dyno. Group pricing is very reasonable, if not the most reasonable in the entire metro area.

So I can add this to our meeting topics for Tuesday to get it out on the table. Then if there is continued interest we can set a date and promote it.

I'd ask Intercoolest, he actually knows the guy and has talked with him on teh subject.

With a Dyno available, I bet he'd be willing to come out if we can guarantee him the $$.

Chuck,

Put it up for comment at the Tuesday meeting. I wonder how many MINIs would like to get a shot at a dyno.

We shall see.

Could be interesting and a lot of fun.

Count me in even though I won't be able to make it to the monthly meeting.

Oh sure Michael, you finally get a newsletter and now you figure you are so well informed that you don't need to go to the meetings. Maybe I should loose your email address again.

MINI meeting and dyno.

Alright... alright...
I will be there... to talk about Dyno, Yalla Yalla, and blah blah...but most importantly to have a couple pints of beers, opps wrong answer... let me try again, most importantly to meet my fellow MINI drivers and have a good time.
I guess an early meeting on Wednesday morning at work is not exactly a good excuse to miss the prestigious MINI 5280 meeting. so my *** is there. Now let's turn back to the correct topic before someone smacks me, I do love to see what kind of HP my MINI gets before I order the JCW package.
By the way, you won't lose my email again...

Looking up, Umberto expressed an interest in a dyno day, too.

I even got him to fill out the paperwork for membership in 5280 today.

I asked Jan w/ Revolution Mini Works & he responded that he needs a minimum of 10 cars to Tune to make the trip worthwile.

Mike - How much does Jan typically charge for a tune?

The normal cost of the tune is $350 per car, does not include Dyno costs.

Sounds interesting, do we have 10 R53s in the area that want/need a tune?

I imagine it would be $450-500 for a Jan tune when you include the dyno time.

I'm still queuing a 5280 dyno day, I'm thinking late Jan/Feb. 09 for a winter event.

Continuing to look into possible venues, Parker still looks the best for now.

If I could get an exact price I would know better if I can do this.

And my vote goes to MAC for the dyno. Their facilities are great and can accomidate 10 minis easily.

Rocky, it would be good if we can get 10 R53s and use MAC, I will pass the RMW-Jan possibility to Intercoolest to follow.

I think a few folks (like myself) are interested in getting a baseline on our R56s and few are interested in getting baselines on the R53s, etc.

We will see what develops.

I was just wondering if the Dyno was still a go?
Thanks,

Jorge,

It is in my planning queue, since Chuck chucked it my way at a meeting in the past. Glad you asked.

I was thinking late January or February to get this set up, it could be a nice indoor winter activity.

Any thoughts? All are welcome to suggest or even help me out in planning.

Are you guys planning on just doing dyno runs or would you like to do tuning from Jan as well?

I can't speak for the R53 owners, but I have to ask do we have 10 R53 owners who want to spend $350 plus dyno time ($450-$500) per car for a Jan tune?

I'm thinking baseline for all on this event and if the R53 folks can convince Jan to come up and have the money to spend, it would by a wonderful experience.

Rocky, I get the impression you would like a Jan tune?
