Not any meaningful difference other than which brake lines are needed. MINI even painted the R56 S calipers red during the 2nd gen and called it the “JCW 16” Sport Brake Kit”. Both versions were OEM.

For me MINI marketing can hype all they want. Paint it red, and slap on a fancy badge with wings and I will not fall for them. It is just a single piston floating caliper like those found on beige cars.

BTW, does JCW garage still exist as an arm's length entity, or is that just a virtual garage in 5th dimension?

After selling the JCW brand to MINI, Michael “John” Cooper started a bicycle company Cooper Bikes. Not sure if that is still around.

Today, it’s gone full circle and he is selling parts for the Classic MINI again.

Here is their website: http://www.coopercarcompany.com

As far as these brakes go, they appear to be as advertised. The 16” brakes as found on the R53 JCW and GP. Just repainted and using the newer style JCW logo. With decent pads and SS brake lines, they are a mid-level improvement over stock.
