can't get my horn to honk when locking/unlocking

it says in my owners manual that i can set my unlock confirmation thingy to both flash lights and honk when i either lock or unlock but the option w/ the little speaker never comes up... it's either off or lights but i think the options 'should' be: off, lights, sound, lights and sound

help me know i'm not nutzo

you got to have the factory alarm for that option to be available

Yep, mine is the same way. I tried to look for the horn or sound option but it's not there, only lights. Hopefully a software revision can take care of this and give us the sound option.

or maybe we'll all be spared the honk everytime you lock your MINI. Consider it a courtesy to the world. I just look for the lights whilst I click lock.

Well you got me there, I don't much care for the honk either, but my wife likes the audio as a check. On her car one click is the locks and lights and a second click will sound the horn. That may be more to my taste, but I would still like the option.

Why do people have to announce it to the world that they are locking their cars? It really is annoying to be walking past a car in a parking lot and have some idiot blow the horn to set the alarm. Can't you people be happy with flashing lights?

I've got to say I enjoy the silent confirmation signal. By the way, the folks in Britain think we're nuts to have to wake the neighbors just to announce our cars are safe and locked.

It's worst of all in residential areas. The whole neighborhood doesn't need to know each and every time you enter and leave your car.

i don't like the honk either. a quiet and discrete beep or nothing at all is preferred. dunno if this has changed w/ r56's, but w/ r53's unlock gives you 2 flashes of light, lock gives 1. i think this is enough

I don't know whether I have the factory alarm or an oem add on, but mine chirps twice when unlocking and once when locking. It's not the horn, but rather a separate alarm siren that's mounted on the firewall on the passenger side. I had the dealer turn off the chirp early on and then later when I went back to have them turn on the oem fog lights kit I installed, the chirp came back on. I was told they could no longer switch off individual functions like that due to a software change. The only time it's really annoying is if I lock the car and then realize I've left something inside and have to unlock and lock it again. Some afternoon when I get ambitious I'll have to pull things apart and see if I can clip the wire that sends the chirp signal without disconnecting the alarm altogether.

Maybe I have good hearing but I can hear the door locks click when I hit the button. I dont even have to look for the flash.

Nope.. I also thought I was going crazy when the manual had 3 options and the OBC had only lights (C~) or off options. Then I realized that it probably needs the alarm system installed.
