Before I buy - PLEASE ADVISE ME

OK - I'm going to buy a Copper S with:
- Cold Weather --- $300
- Preimm Package ---- $1400
- Sport Package --- $1900
- Convenience Package --- $1400
- 10 Speaker HiFi ---- $550
- Dark Silver Paint - $450
- Destination & Handling - $650
- Dual SS Tips - $125

Total Confugured Cost - $27,976

I want:
- The Factory Lifetime Sirius --- $550 (I think this is the $550 charge above)
- After Market Rear Sway Bar --- $200
- After Market Air Intake ---$225
- Maybe J Cooper Brake Package --- $1059

Here's my question:
- Am I going about his the wrong way? - Would i be better off buying a J Cooper package
- I was at the NY Car Show this week and the rep said that the Sirius Package should be available for order Arpril 15th - does this sounds right?

Any suggestion are welcome on packages / how to confugure and where and what brand after market items to get

I'm looking for delivery any time in July -- I can't wait

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE HELP

i also have a DS S coming soon (next week). if i can make some recommendations. check out also adding the white turn indicators. i missed that in my spec and im kind of upset about it. it gets rid of the yellow in the headlights and tailights for a more sporty look. and its only $100. also i would suggest getting the black roof. it looks great with the DS. and last i would suggest the brushed alloy dash ($300 and its real metal and its awesome looking) and the anthro headliner ($200 i think). both make the interior of the car much more sporty and again, they are pretty cheap. good luck.

You might want to consider the sport suspension option, rather than just an after-market sway bar. It has gotten some good reviews here.

Definitely get the limited slip differential.

You might consider rear fog lamps. They look cool, and might keep someone from rear-ending you in the fog.

I'm going for the NAV. 50% of the reason is I think it looks much better than the cartoon speedo.

I ordered the JCW strut brace (engine compartment). Not sure whether it really helps or not.

As of now there is no after market rear sway bar. Get the Sport Suspension. There is also no after market air intake. The MINI MCS has the JCW brake kit from 2006. Also please note that brake kit needs to be installed at the MINI dealership. My dealer charges $100 per hour. If performance is your game then add Limited Slip and cherry pick the convenience and or premium package. Sirius is not ready yet and will not be available until June. There is no JCW Package for R56. It's all individual cosmetic items. However, sometime later this year you should be able to find a Stage One JCW kit that boosts horsepower and costs around $2k plus installation.

Oh yea, my MA said the R56 JCW brake package was purely cosmetic (drilled rotors) since last year's JCW brakes are now standard. I hear that some 14 year-old girls are impressed by drilled rotors, but it wont improve braking.

All -very helpful - THANKS

I was going to take a passs on the Nav and use my Garmin 360 - which is great

Sounds like i should consider the Hyper Sport and Slip Diff and wait for the J Cooper package

Can someone please give a quick explanation of what the Slip Diff will do for me / what are the benefits?

Limited slip keeps one front wheel from spinning alone under acceleration. It can help you from getting stuck or losing some control if conditions are slippery. I can't tell where you are, but if you live or ever travel where there's ice/snow, it's great. Even when just wet or muddy it should help.

It's good for the track or when having fun. Makes sure that force is applied to both wheels. Better acceleration.

It's really fairly cheap up front for what it is, and very expensive (~$3K? parts/labor) if you change your mind after the fact and want to retrofit.

EDIToohhh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_slip_differential

Lots of snow and ice means you need snow tires. Limited Slip may help but those tires are the key. Don't let anyone tell you that all season tires are good enough. They are not. Even here in rainy Seattle you should have a set of snow tires if you are going to do any recreational activity in the mountains.

There may never have been a girl impressed by "dirlled" rotots, whatever they are. However, a friend who has an $85K Porsche and a 14 year old niece told me that her only comment about the car was that the drilled rotors were very cool.

  • The Sirius is an additional $1100, the Hifi package is just for the speakers (lots of money unless you plan to have the car for 10 years) - I don't think you get it back in resale value
  • Get the LSD (avoids the screatching tires in every corner and every time you start from a traffic light and will safe the money in tires very soon
  • get the sport suspension, it really improves handling
  • I highly recommend the $200 for the antrazid headliner - it looks so much better

I believe the HIFI also adds an amp.

This is all very helpful - thanks

ithink i still want the Sirius -- i know i want Sat Radio and i don't want to have an extra device to find a home for elsewhere in the car

i want to use my Garmin Nuvi (still not sold on the stock/mini/bmw unit)

i may also instal Ipod adapter and phone --- i want to keep it as simple as possible and still get the goodies i want like Sat Radio and GPS

Web Spoke wheels with sport package are incredibly well built and clean easily. Frankly, I was surprised how much nicer two part wheels are vs one piece. Check them out. MINI charges $400+ each as an accessory vs. $500 total in the sport package.

Umm there are several aftermarket rear sway bars, check out our vendors. BTW I have the sport suspension and its great and the only thing I think I'm doing to the suspension is replacing the springs to give the car a "altitude adjustment"

I want to get the the 4 R99 17" Polished Wheels & Caps (installation not incl.) as an option --- they are listed as $2575 plus instalation - does thsi sound right -- I thought these are a factory install --- also if I order these and also select the Sport package does that mean I get two sets of rims and tires?

Thanks - getting closenow that Sirius is available for order --- I'm also considering the JCW Stage 1 as a dealer isntall

Those are John Cooper Works wheels, which means the dealer installs them. So figure $150 per hour or more to remove the factory wheels, remount your tires, etc. I don't know whether you keep the factory wheels, or not. I would guess not.

I suggest getting the standard wheels (Crown Spoke 17" if you order the Sports Package) and buy third party wheels. This is what I did. I got a set of Center Line RPM (16 lbs. rotray forged) on sale for $169 ea. and have an appointment to get Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 205/45 17 installed at Sullivans for about $750 with high speed spin balance and alignment. So, I end up with two sets of wheels and tires for less than you would pay for the R99.

Depending on where you live, you might want to have a second set of wheels for snow tires. Heavy factory wheels for snow, light weight 3rd party wheels for summer dancing. Do you know what the R99's weigh? The factory wheels are something like 22.5 lbs.
