Dyno in SoCaL

I live in the San Fernando Valley, about 30 minutes north/west of Hollywood. I've called a few dyno shops, but nobody is available really to run my car :-\. I'm getting a few items installed tomorrow and I wanted to get a baseline, anyone know of a shop nearby that has a dyno and doesn't have a 2 week backlog? I called Gintani, they don't even have their dyno yet, and LAPD has a 1-2 week backlog. :impatient

I just had mine done on short notice at DRS in La Habra.

ADDRESS: 401 Park Industrial Drive, La Habra ,CA 90631
PHONE: 562.694.2226
FAX: 562.694.5244
ORDERS: 866.694.2226
E-MAIL: sales@racesolutions.com
HOURS: 9AM to 5PM, M-F (pacific time)

I would suggest calling them for the quickest turnaround. It was $75 for 3 pulls on the DynoJet. They have a lot of experience with MINIs.

Good luck.

What bits are you having installed? If they are supposed to make a substantial power gain, then you might want to wait for LAPD (Los Angeles Performance Division). I believe their new dyno incorporates eddy currents.

Good luck....

Here's hoping that you find a local dyno soon so you can share your results with the rest of us.

Well, I waited so long to get my car into Steve's as it is, i'm just not sure I have the patience to wait 2 weeks for the baseline, then wait another week or two for Steve to fit me in.

I was originally going to go with the El Diablito head, but because of unplanned purchases (On a twitch, I bought the Aero Kit, and completely underestimated the cost of painting it...) i'm not going to be able to afford that.

Based on other people's good experiances, dyno results, and my own relationship with Steve, i'm going to be going with his head. It's nothing fancy, just a standard Port and Polish, etc, but the numbers are solid, and i've worked out a kick *** price .

I'll call Steve early tomorrow morning and see if he has any idea's regarding a quick dyno pull, but chances are i'm just going to let him go ahead with the work.

What have others found before and after that particular head modification?

Good luck...

Here's a thread by BluMini with similar modifications and a dyno plot attached.

Thanks for the reference, however, I couldn't find in that thread the before and after numbers. Perhaps you'll be able to get that with your car.

Again, good luck...

Well, you can find my before numbers in this thread. I managed to get a baseline done today

BluMini said my numbers were basically the same as his.

I've completely shifted focus and i'm going to be going with the El Diablito head . I should have dyno numbers on Monday .

Good decision . With that head you might want to consider a different header and cat-back, e.g., 2.5 or 3". Of course, you'll have to deal with sound issues . With my Burns Stainless/CPR Fabrication 3" system, I have two in-line resonators and a repackable/tunable muffler for each side of the dual exhaust. Those who have heard it say the sound is quite tolerable. However, one of my neighbors told me he knows when I'm in the neighborhood for at least two blocks from home .

Again, good luck...

With no other changes blumini pulled:

Before Steve's Head:

192.26whp @ 6850rpm / 169.67 ft/lbs torque @ 6200rpm

After the Steve's Head install:

230.2 whp @ 6850rpm / 180 ft/lbs torque @ 6200rpm

I'm working directly with Jan to try and get the car tuned properly and extract as much as possible from the stock blower SAFELY.

DRS is where Fireballed does all their dyno's, thats where my car went. The numbers are real and its a very tight dyno. To me I think some of these other dyno's seem way too liberal with their numbers.

What type of dyno is the DRS dyno? I was under the impression that DynoPac and Dyno Dynamics dyno's are among the most conservative. While Dynojet Dyno's generally show more liberal numbers. Mustang dyno's i've been told are hard to opperate, and thus their accuracy depends on the skill of the operator.

Check out this thread...
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=286440

He see's a 22% difference between a Dynojet and a Dyno Dynamics Dyno! . Under the same circumstances, my car would have read 246 whp on a dyno jet dyno using those figures . 192 / .78 (factoring in the 22% discrepancy) = 246.
If they use SAE Smoothing that can affect results as well.

The results I got at Autowave are unaltered. It was about 73 degree's in the garage, and I was at 14 ft ASL, so there was no smoothing.

Delta test on Monday, to see what the new head/cams/port matched intake manifold did. I'll keep everyone posted .

For kicks maybe i'll head over to DRS at some point and see what type of numbers I pull on their dyno.

You gonna be at Bimmerfest May 5th? What about the end of the month SCMM/Exotic meeting at the Elco shopping center?

Everything i've read about dyno's says that Dynojets are notoriously optimistic...
